C6 doesn't have particles with Light Effects, but will show cast light emitted. C7 does have the light effects for particles(except for Light Sphere iirc).

Select the whole object, then use Ctrl+Alt on a vertex near the edge you want. The vertex will turn yellow and you can use that to pivot.
Thread: New 3D artist magazine with Carrara 6.2 | Forum: Carrara
I've had C6 Std. since its launch, then bought the magazine last weekend and have to say,...wow,...very powerful program to have on a magazine disk. I know Blender and tS 7.6 are free, but imho and what I've seen in Blender and used in tS, they aren't anywhere near as easy to use(plus Carrara has direct content support). It is Windows only and no render nodes, but at this price, no problem, lol. Even if I can't upgrade the mag version, it will be enough to keep me going for a very long time.
Thread: New in Carrara 7 | Forum: Carrara
Yes, great news. I read the Beta info from a post on the DAZ forum. Thanks for gathering/listing the info JonnyBravo. Carrara is my main 3dcg app, and it sure looks like its getting some very nice enhancements and features.
Thread: VM Selection Tools Problem. | Forum: Carrara
Hi bwtr,...Im guessing the "Motion Path" function icons are conflicting with the Modeling Room VM selection modes icons.
When shutting Carrara down after using a Motion Path object, then running Carrara again, the VM selection modes icons display wrong or go partially missing. The VM selection modes icons and Motion Path icons, seem to be the same movable area.
The only way I can get them back is to Reset Preferences,...or as a workaround, move(or undock) the icons prior to the issue, then shutdown Carrara(but have the preferences written down somewhere just in case). Im guessing this is a bug with the icons preferences maybe? Anyone else?
Thread: Strange problem with C6 browser! | Forum: Carrara
It seems to save some extras with the object, maybe an intended feature for something else in the program? If not, then I confirm, remove unused masters works to clear things out.
Thread: Strange problem with C6 browser! | Forum: Carrara
I have the same issue (replied at DAZ too, following the info there). It seems to affect the, "Objects", "Shaders" tabs(next to Instances tab).
Thread: using the scene wizards | Forum: Carrara
This was difficult for me at first too. After I place an object in a terrain scene, I scale them larger if needed, so I can see them in the Camera view relative to other objects or terrain(especialy in Large scales, like terrain presets). I use the commands; "Zoom to selection", "Reset 2d pan", and "View selection", plus "Send to Origin" alot in a 4 viewport setup to help with placement and finding locations/objects.
When I get the object I want placed, the "Scene's Magnitude" settings can then be used for better/finer control(like Camera speeds etc). I worked slightly different 3dcg workflows and the scaling in Carrara threw me off for a bit, but now its almost second nature to set things up. Feel free to ask questions, cause there are many more workflows to manage the scenes and presets in Carrara. Hope this helps.
Thread: OpenGL and Software and new Graphics cards? | Forum: Carrara
Yes, a new video card should make quite a difference with OpenGL turned on. I would recommend at least OpenGL 2.0 cards or higher. Your system should also see a slight improvement overall because of the new graphics card architecture, Im guessing.
Thread: Need to know | Forum: Bryce
I have a BFG 7800GS AGP(one of the top AGP cards) that works very fast for OpenGL, and never gave any problems in 3dcg apps(including Bryce 6). Im not sure of an AGP ATi card(maybe X800 XT or X850 XT?).
Thread: Carrara 6 pro-64 bit compatible? | Forum: Carrara
Thanks for the clarification jfbeute. I try to keep up with some tech info, but the net has so much to read(learn) lately, lol.
Im still new, but was curious to the crashing with some apps on systems at or around the 2gb limit(just a guess). Some are saying that Carrara will just use the disk swapfile when it runs out of physical memory, but it seems by reading the 1.6gb+ usage in any 32bit app seems to cause instability(at least thats what I see/read).
Im sure DAZ is working to get a 64bit version out as soon as possible, cause many 3dcg users, pro and hobby, are already working with machines/scenes that surpass the programs 32bit limits ram wise. Even if the HDD swapfile worked perfectly, IMO, it isn't an option when it comes to speed for rendering(it slows waaaaay down).
Thread: Carrara 6 pro-64 bit compatible? | Forum: Carrara
Just to correct/add to my above post;... from what I read(correct if wrong), if the 32 bit app is "large address aware", then it should be able to use up to 4gb ram in a 64bit OS. In a 32 bit OS, by default, 32bit apps will only use 2gb max.
Some programs are rumored to crash if they exceed the 2gb limits as well, so hopefully someone can confirm if Carrara is large address aware for those using more than 2gb and a 64bit OS.
Thread: Carrara 6 pro-64 bit compatible? | Forum: Carrara
I don't have any problems running Vista 64bit and C6 Std.(dunno about Pro, but should be the same). If I read forum posts correctly, a 64bit OS lets a 32bit app(like C6) run up to approx 3-4g ram limit. Hope this helps.
Thread: C6 cloud quality worse than C5? | Forum: Carrara
I will be watching this thread closely, as I will be doing some heavy cloud renders and landscaping with C6. By any chance, could this grainy effect be related to multi CPUs and C6? Maybe try render with just one core(maybe way off, worth a try?...I only have single core so I can't test).
Thread: Hot hardware setup for C6Pro | Forum: Carrara
Wow, thats a nice budget(under 6k?). I would get at least quad core, 4 gig of ram, an 8800 Nvidia card, 2 HDD(300gb or higher) two or three 20" LCDs or higher(3 are awesome for 3dcg and games), 64bit OS to support larger amount of ram(Vista is gaining 64bit support alot now) etc... this would be my base computer to start out with with the right budget in 3dcg, which can always be upgraded later depending on MB.
For me, the monitors and CPU would be the first things to look at. Fast video card if you want high end games and mega polygon models for OpenGL viewports etc...
I run my very outdated computer as a dedicated 3dcg one, and found it is MUCH less hassle to work on(its not connected to internet for less services in background etc.).
