Look at it this way: The Shield is starting up again in April :D And it's obvious you haven't given BSG enough of a chance, because you'd not be glad you never got into it. My brother is mad at himself for not paying attention until recently - almost three seasons in.

I hate Baltar with all my being!  ^_^

How is Galactica going? I heard they had a big drop of audience with 3rd season and that the 4th will be the last one...  But here in Italy we have only few news because it has been broadcasted only on a satellite tv and it is not well known.  (I have purchased the first two seasons DVD in UK, and I hate Baltar).

That is the way of TV. Less episodes every year. I would not be surprised to see 2008 as the last season for BSG. The writing seems to have lost something and it is like they are pulling at straws, as in the other 5, to get some interst back. I've watched every episode from the day it aired on Scifi network. Not to mention the original, shows my age. LOL.

We still have the last season of SG1 in a couple of week. The new show PainKiller Jane starts shortly.

I did get a laugh to night watching the Dresden Files. Claudia Black was on it. What gave me the laugh was how they anounced her on the commercials. Claudia Black of SG1. I remember her first episode on SG1. She was refered to as Claudia Black of Farscape. LOL.

Khai ( ) posted Mon, 26 March 2007 at 6:50 AM

actually I did give BSG a chance.. and was bored of it by the end of the first season... but my first love of TV aaaah thats still going strong after all this time :)

giorgio_2004 ( ) posted Mon, 26 March 2007 at 7:04 AM

BSG does not have a lot of action (yes, maybe a bit more could be useful for audience) but what I really like about it is the level of acting. Edward James Olmos is able to deliver a lot of emotions with just a blink of his eyes, and while I hate Baltar 100%  (did I already told you?) I also think that James Callis is doing a GREAT job with such a difficult character.
And do not forget the great use of hand cameras, the special effects so beautiful because almost invisible....
The problem, in my opinion, is the script. The whole New Caprica stop is bad for a story that should have "the search for Earth" as central theme. They need to spice up the whole thing.

You are right in it losing something. I was at the point of not even bothering to follow this season some of the episodes were becoming a wee bit too strange for my taste. It was like they were leaving fighting the Cylons someplace else and running off in all directions. Then this BS with Starbuck really made me making me wonder  WTF? It almost reminds me of the NBC series SeaQuest the first season was killer and I was really loving the program then it went down the head.

It would not surprise me one bit if 2008 was the last hoohay for BSG to me it's running out of gas.
It would be nice to see the SciFi network put more energy back onto new episodes of Farscape and Firefly.

bsg watched couple off them but series shows how the 12 planet's, with every land based weapon american, the planitary forces american, hell it's showing how the americans flew form 1 galaxy to populate the earth.
The old tv series worked as so it was american actors at least thier civilization was not american, nah bsg load crap as only reason i watch some was to see the BLOND, now she fantastic skin complection, nice body and sexy looking.
Im waiting for the BSG movie in 2010 which shows the galactica landing in washington dc and bush baby boarding to lead the american forces from the 12 colonies, to conquer iraq and iran and to capture the whole world for uncle sam.
And to make bush baby world president.

jt411 ( ) posted Mon, 26 March 2007 at 8:44 AM

Holy crap, that season finale was a frakkin' religious experience! What's up with the Jimi Hendrix song everybody was hearing?
I didn't mind the stand-alone episodes this season. The writers have proved time and time again that there's some serious repercussions behind every twist the show makes.
According to Nielson's, BSG's ratings dipped by 5 percent this season, after the new time slot. According to AFI's cable/satellite/DVR stats the show's ratings are through the roof which would explain why the DVD sales are so strong.
The best thing about BSG is that it's honest storytelling. Nobody's chasing the ratings, the show never plays it safe, and never takes the easy way out. I'd like to see Heroes or Lost take some chances; they both feel seriously watered down for the lowest common denominator.
Anyway, BSG returns in January with 22 new episodes. If you can't wait, a special BSG movie will air on SciFi and be released on DVD this fall. The movie is set on the Pegasus and takes place right before the Cylon attack on the colonies.
So say we all!

Well, if we're going to wait so long for new BSG eps...* * guess it kinda behooves us to create our own.... :-).   The final ten minutes of the last episode with "all along The Watchtower" made up for all the odd bits through out the season.
And as for Baltar.... he sees dead cylons.
besides, even Farscape made it to Earth, why can't Galactica?

Its simple me son, if we look at various films, Forbiden Planet bloody briliant film and american made but they did not use american military tactics and was not a united states space ship.
Was an earth ship represent the human race, and enterprise the first star trek to show the fact that it was the people of the earth under one goverment, and the ships would carry the UFP not USS later when the federation made.
The original war of the worlds bloody brill and may have been american made but showed the people of the wold fighting, unlike the crap modern version of how ameriica and especialy an amerian germ, on an american tree.
That defeated the aliens, hell even talking to a bin laden supporter in london even he said to us on the underground train, bin laden marvels at how a sci fi film the new war of the worlds had a strong anti english element in it, even though england has allways been at americas back in support around the world.
Bsg when the so called left behind people they was fighting in american streets, american weapons, american trucks ect.Sory chum if they supposed be from another galaxy then they should have made the weapons and organisation sci fi not based on america.
I still got the original Star ship troopers board and paper game and read the book and could understand the auther was in the pacific so had first hand of horrors of certain fighting when he did book.
Just like far side of the world america was not going tolerate an american ship being beaten so changed it to a french ship.
Maybe one day we will see a film from america or a tv series scifi that represents the people of the world, though the way in next 20 years mexicans will make up 90% population of california.
Lets hope a mexican hollywood make some historical films even though they will be in spanish.
Why i like bush it is official around the world he is the thickest dobate president in american history, after all he has united the world in hatred of america, and is responsible for iran to recreate thier ancient persian empire again in modern world.
well ill be in yank land again visiting friends and having a nice holiday again though ill be escaping jesus tony blair land for bonzo bush land, and ya can have blair out thier and even as ya president as long as he get's outa my country..

I am sorry, jugoth, but I do not understand fully your quite peculiar language. I have studied English at school and I use for my job but some colorful expressions are a bit hard to understand for me.

Anyway...

  1. BSG is filmed mostly in Vancouver, Canada, so they do not fight "in american streets". The location seems anonymous enough for the casual, or international, viewer. They could be streets of London, Milan, or Tokyo.

  2. The Twelve Colonies are (or were) inhabithed by people of different ethnicity. Battlestar Wiki hosts many topics about their various cultures, and it is very informative: have a look at it. Outscreen, this is reflected by the international cast: Edward James Olmos is Mexican/American, James Callis is British, Grace Park is of Korean descent, Kandyse McClure is from South Africa, and so on.

  3. BSG is a sci-fi show and makes no references to the actual politic situation of the real world, so in my opinion your references about it are a bit forced. If and when Earth will be actually found, we'll see how it will be depicted.

  4. Of course, they all speak and write English in the show . There is a good "inscreen" explaination, obviously, but the natural reason is that this way the audience can understand what is happening. Seems quite logical to me.

  5. So say we all.

I see I'm not the only one that noticed the Hendrix song. I like that version. It had that, "late sixties/ Beatle Harrison/ done in a modern rock," feel to it. Got to love it. As a guitar player for around 40 years now, Hendrix was one of my top 5 guitar player.

Yes, bring back Farscape and Firefly, now that was good TV. Though I wonder who would replace Wash after toasting him in the movie.

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Mon, 26 March 2007 at 4:49 PM

As soon as I heard Colonel Thai say "say the joker to the thief", I knew it was "All Along the Watchtower" (Hendrix from Bob Dylan).  And then "there's too much confusion" and "I can't get no relief" (cue guitar) - that sealed it. ;)

Farscape was good - but now we have StarGate Farscape I with the two members from the former cast.

I think the plot with the Ori for SG 1 is pretty good (though the tying in of Arthur mythology is a bit stretchy).

I 'say we all' find something else to watch until BSG returns.  Wish they'd do the Doctor Who spinoffs here (SciFi or BBC America).

Good to hear there's new Dr Who though :) Thank the gods my download limit is 30gb these days. They don't air much here in Australia so I have to download 330Mb epi's off the net :/
New epi's of Firefly would rock my world :)

thixen ( ) posted Mon, 26 March 2007 at 5:40 PM

This is way OT for here, but with Scott8539's addition put atleast some Poser into it.

Ok a few things to add to this.

The reason for the Hendrex song, the stint with Starbuck and the 5 last models (no I don't think that they were revealed in that episode. I think the saboteur is messing with the crew) is probably going to come back to what they've been hinting on 'this all happened before and it will again'. There is a chance that they are going to write it as radio signals in space, but why just that song.

Starbuck never died in the previous episode, she went to the place between life and death ala the D’Anna Biers (Lucy Lawless) cylon model.

I think that they have 1 more season (after 4) I heard somewhere that 5 seasons was all the producers where planning to make. Also there is a new spin off (prequel) starting in 2008 I think. Which would follow Sci-Fi's SG1 plan, spin off a show before the other one reaches it's end.

And will they find earth, I believe they will at the end of season 4 and then season 5 will focus on earth's reaction and the possible fight/integration of the cylons.

An off / interesting twist would be if the 'humans' of earth were originally cylon/colonist hybrids that eventually evolved off their mechanical parts. So when the colonists get there they find that the 13th colony is actually descendents of both races. Lends creedence to the whole 'it's happened before and it'll happen again' stuff that they've been spouting since season 1

As far as being American-centric?? Not sure where that is coming from, but the show's new caprica stop has been criticized with being anti-iraq war in nature if part of the intent was to criticize a political policy then you probably should make reference to the political group.

I don't think it's American-centric at all, the military tatics used are common to all first world militaries, as already mentioned it was filmed in Vancouver (mostly because it's cheaper there.)

anyway thats my 6 cents worth.

Ohh by the way, a little bit of trivia, the ship that  Admiral Adama distoried in the death of Starbuck episode was acctually a model ship on loan from a meusem peice and Edward James Olmos improvised that scene. The producers most of lost it. But kind of ironic that the cylons are wrecking a muesum peice of a ship (the Galactica) and then Admiral Adama does the same on the Galactica

Tashar59 ( ) posted Mon, 26 March 2007 at 5:59 PM

I never thought that Starbuck was dead, one of the main characters that you don't knock off, on a normal basis.

thixen that is good insight on what is going on. Shame we will have to wait about 9 months to see this baby. Sorry for the bad pun.

Vancouver is cheeper to make movies there, but also the scenes. You have beach, city, small town, rain forest. All in a very small area.

If you thought it was 'pro-American', you might have missed the season opener a while back. The Cylons were the Americans, and the colonists were the Iraqis...it does annoy one when one is blunted over the head with a none-to-subtle 'message' (If you want to send a message, call Western Union- Samuel Goldwyn..;)

I lost out on BSG when they kept moving it from here to there. Now it's on Sunday nights (now that's a prime time slot..;)

I've managed to catch Dr. Who for the next to last and last Dr. (anyone notice he was the 'mad eye Moody in disguise in the last Harry Potter movie?'...;) Before that, the last Dr. we saw was the 'cricket uniformed one'..after Baker) oh..and that 'millenial movie' movie...;)

Attached Link: Salon interview with Ronald D Moore

Some comments: 1) Yes, there will be no new episodes of BSG until January 2008. :( I guess the producers didn't learn a thing from *The Sopranos*. It wasn't the acting or the plotlines that killed *The Sopranos*, but making the audience waiting fracking YEARS for new episodes. I mean, really, the show has been around for something like 10 years, but at one point, there was a TWO year gap between new episodes. And even then, I think they only showed 10 or 11 new episodes... before going off the air for another year. How many people will really wait and tune in a year later? Most people will forget about the show and move on. If they only show 13 episodes in 2008 and make people wait until January 2009 for the next season, I would be willing to bet that they'll lose most of their audience.   Though if they can hold off for 3 years, they could have Galactica find Earth in 2010... 30 years after the original Galactica came to Earth in *Galactica: 1980*!   2) There may be a BSG mini-series sometime in the fall and it **may** be set on the Pegasus or during the year of occupation on New Caprica. But, it won't resolve the cliffhanger from last week's episode.   3) Next year **may** be the last season since the producers said they wanted a beginning (the 2003 mini-series), a middle (the current series), and ending (finding Earth?). Ronald Moore has also said that he wants to end the show when it's on top, instead of dragging it out.   There's more juicy information in the [interview on Salon](http://www.salon.com/ent/feature/2007/03/24/battlestar/) with Ronald D. Moore. Not to worry- he doesn't explain any secrets like the "final five" Cylons, what happened to Starbuck, what specifically happens next season, etc. (Note: you may need to watch a short commercial before entering Salon.)

thixen ( ) posted Thu, 29 March 2007 at 3:20 PM

Personally I find Claudia Black oddly attractive myself. That is when you find someone attractive, but don't quite know why, may be it has to do with the fact that she has more tight fitting leather in her wardrobe then Viki :/

Anyhow I just thought of an interesting theory that would be cool, but probably way off base. What if the colonists weren't following clues left on a trip TO Earth, but on one FROM Earth. When they get there they find it totally devoid of human life and a planet just finishing a recovery from a nuclear holocaust and that they are the 13th colony.

The whole it happened before and it will happen again would refer not literally to the Cylon attack, but the fact that a man made weapon (Cylons in this case. Nukes in the first case) nearly caused the extinction of humanity causing them to travel across the stars to new planet(s).  This could also lead into another spin off of the colonists rebuilding on earth and the Cylons on another planet with an uneasy and oft broken cease-fire.

comments?

Did anyone notice that Baltar's lawyer was Badger from Firefly? The girl that helps Baltar at the end of the show is the cute nurse form Jake 2.0 and Grace Park was her lab assistant.

Maybe I just watch to much of the Scifi channel. LOL.

Also of note a few of the actors from BSG, as well as the guy who plays Sawyer in Lost,  is in the new Command and Conquer game. The show has been good to them

The movie was for the Firefly fans, to kind of give it an ending to the story. I had a laugh at an interview late one night. This guy was claimed as an authority in scifi movies and shows. He said that the movie "Serenity" had no proper story line and made no scence of what it was about.  The so called expert didn't know what "Firefly" was. That was on Coast2CoastAM. That has millions listening all over the world, so I think that helped hurt the movie in the theaters.

I know she can act, but since when do ugly people who can act jump ahead of good looking people who can act?  There are many talented, good-looking, starving actors.

I can see if the role calls for ugly or weird-looking, there's a whole cottage industry in Hollywood acting for that (think the cast of villains in Buckaroo Banzai), but she's getting major protagonist roles.

Again, there are scads of vivacious good-looking, talented actors out there, bursting with personality, who can't get work.

It never fails to amaze me how taken people are by the obvious. Subtle elegance, subtle handsomeness, subtle beauty ... these are the true flavours of life. I'm sick of the same boring actors/actresses (no political correctness for me!), doing the same boring roles, smiling their same perfectly straight toothed smiles, wearing the same designer named outfits. It's boring. Substance and subtleness are sooo much more interesting.
I'd much rather watch something with someone like Claudia Black in it than some regurgitated piece of fluff with the 'actor/actress of the day' in it.

Yeah, okay.

She started with work in Australian TV, then got her "big break" in North American terms with appearances on Hercules.  Like a lot of Aussie and NZ actors, since they filmed in NZ.  She played Amazons, and being relatively tall and in good shape of course she'd be up for a role like that.   "Pitch Black" is filmed in Australia, so as local talent and with some SF/fantasy recognition for Hercules, she'd be a prime candidate.  An episode of Xena (already done work with the same production team), Beastmaster (SF/F again, filmed in Australia), Queen of the Damned (SF/F), Farscape (filmed Australia, SF/F), the rest being history.

If you look at her career it's pretty obvious what happened: she did minor roles in TV and TV movies like many other actors who never do anything otherwise, did one notable show (Hercules, in this case) that made her known for a specific genre, added some more roles that gave her notability in that genre, and since  Pitch Black and has done nothing outside science fiction/fantasy.  She's an actress who's proven able to do action-oriented SF/F roles, she's actually a good actress (she's had good reviews for her Shakespeare work on stage) so of course she's on the short list when such a role comes up.  No casting couch required.

I will be shocked if BSG does not stay on for years and years.  The storyline is rich enough for 15 seasons.

-- Technology - No death rays or teleportation.  Just enough technology to fly through space.
-- Cylons - Fueled by biological systems and somewhat vulnerable like us.  Religious zealots and experts at manipulation.
-- Caprica 6 - The day she gains 5 pounds, everyone's going to treat her like Kirstie Alley.
-- Military Lingo - They must have a good advisor because their terms are accurate and properly used.
-- Thrace and Roslyn - I like the angels of destiny story-line.  Looking forward to more.
-- 5 more Cylons - I'll tune in for 5 more seaons just to see one revealed per year.
-- Find Earth - It'd be way too big a budget, but what a story that would be.  First contact, fighting together against Cylons, the Earth politics involved, the embrace of the BSG technology.  Cool stuff.

BSG Trivia - Boomer and Caprica 6 are both taller than Starbuck.  Hotdog is Adama's real-life son.  Tigh's dead wife was played by the daughter of Dean Wormer from Animal House.  Apollo has a thick British accent.  Baltar played one of the friends in Bridget Jones' Diary.

Quote - I will be shocked if BSG does not stay on for years and years.  The storyline is rich enough for 15 seasons.

I hate to disappoint you, but the current BSG is slated only for 5 seasons max, with talk that season 4 will be it's last. I agree that there is enough storyline for years, and this is where the spinoffs are coming in.

Caprica will be a prequile spinoff based on the early development of the cylons, how they become aware and how the Adama family ties into it all.

I also wouldn't be surprised if a sequeal spinoff happens as well. But they do have to end the series so they can end the contracts of the stars. If they start a new series with the same stars then some contract timers reset. Eventally it becomes too expensive to pay the actors. Part of the reality of SG1 is that even with revenue coming in from action figures, video games, endorsments etc, they will start loosing money on the actor's saleries alone

Thixen,

I do acknowledge the reality of contracts and financing.   They could have another "MASH" or "Friends" on their hands if they found a cast and crew ready to invest long-term.  I could live with a few spin-offs, but I'd rather see them fly through space a bit more.

As for finding Earth, sure, I remember when grown-up Boxy led a team of children to do Bionic-Man type jumping around on Earth.  But, that was 70s writing with 80s special effects and it truly stunk.  Then again, the old BSG was a family-style drama with a robot dog and a grandfatherly Adama.   One of the things that has made this BSG such a success is that it's rough.  You can imagine the boredom, terrible living conditions, the stink and the stress.  Man isn't elegant and mature like we are in Star Trek, we're still sniveling drama queens who happen to have mastered space travel.  I think a BSG-Earth story would be fascinating and a crowd-pleaser.   Maybe I'll put my mediocre Poser skills aside and try to write a script myself?  It'd make a good BSG:  The Movie.

The sad reality is, and it really stinks if you ask me, is that if BSG was on NBC then it would probably go on after the 5 year mark and become MASH or Friends like. Unfortunately the programing execs must be allergic to things that good. But who knows if Heroes works out well...

I kinda mentioned this before, but what I would like to see is a spin-off that sees Earth as a recovering planet sometime in the future and the adventures or what ever you want to call it, of them either fighting off or attempting an uneasy peace with the cylons as they discover their true roots, that the clues that they followed  weren't ones from earth but to earth. To cut production costs they can have them land in Vancouver.

A BSG:TM, would just be the thing to knock Star Wars from it's pedestal I think. I'd line up or it in the first week.

Quote - Or perhaps I'm not to only person on the planet that thinks she's attractive.

What that has to do with anything, I don't know.  She's got a camel face, and I don't doubt the majority agrees, or at least with the obvious fact that she's very low on the Hollywood looks totem pole.  In terms of the roles she's getting, she's right there on the bottom rung.  Whether or not some people consider her attractive doesn't change that.

Quote - It never fails to amaze me how taken people are by the obvious.

If you mean to say you don't like the fact that beauty sells, and Hollywood acts accordingly, and you don't like this - okay.  :)

Quote - I'd much rather watch something with someone like Claudia Black in it than some regurgitated piece of fluff with the 'actor/actress of the day' in it.

You're creating a false dilemma, where one must choose between ugly, talented actors performing good scripts, or attractive, untalented actors performing crappy scripts, where no such dilemma exists.

Quote - If you look at her career it's pretty obvious what happened: she did minor roles in TV and TV movies like many other actors who never do anything otherwise, did one notable show (Hercules, in this case) that made her known for a specific genre, added some more roles that gave her notability in that genre, and since  Pitch Black and has done nothing outside science fiction/fantasy.  She's an actress who's proven able to do action-oriented SF/F roles, she's actually a good actress (she's had good reviews for her Shakespeare work on stage) so of course she's on the short list when such a role comes up.  No casting couch required.

Sorry, this doesn't make sense to me.  There are many more qualified actors she leap-frogged over, and I just wonder why.  My explanation makes more sense to me.

Who were these other more qualified actors that applied or wanted to do SG1 but were leapfrogged over? Since you know that there are many of them and you know of their qualifications, you must know who some of them were.

I like BSG and Firefly, too.

I also miss The Outer Limits and FARSCAPE.
