No problem at all Hborre. In fact... a good idea.

Can someone recommend a good thread for me to sticky in this regard. I can do it in a matter of seconds if I just know what to do.

xoe, in current versions of poser, mirror surface has little or no diffuse (no colour); reflects ย range of visible spectrum. one may wish to start with bill's basic fresnel shader:

ย

general technique in poser: start with basic shader, then change variables/add nodes until it looks good. ย trial and error for most, simple math for bill et al.

Where might be a good place to look to purchase some animations for v4?

Detrick420 ( ) posted Thu, 12 December 2013 at 8:14 PM

I also seem to be running into some issues getting the elite body shapes and heads to load for v4. I had issues getting the morphs++ to load and I was directed to install a batch file. That seemed to fix the problem. Is there something i need to do to get the elite body shapes to load? I can see them iin my runtime, also I can load the elite textures no problem from the materials tab and they seem to work fine.

From the pose tab if i try to INJ Elite v4 or INJ Muscels v4 nothing seems to happen. I wanted to see what the fantasia body looked like so I tried to load that even though nothing happened when I tried to INJ Eliete v4. Of course nothing happened. An thoughts on what I might be missing?

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 12 December 2013 at 9:05 PM

You need to reinitialize V4 everytime you load a new morph pack. ย It would basically be the same process you performed when you installed the Morph ++ pack.

Detrick420 ( ) posted Sun, 15 December 2013 at 3:04 AM

Thanks so much!!! That cleared up my issue with no problems. After I ran the batch file again everythig worked just fine. The Elite shapes finally showed up for me. That was really bothering me.

As if I dont have enough problems, the next issue I'm running into is with some morphs working with clothing and some not.ย

Say for instance if I load v4, and then run the batch file. I then load inj morphs++, Muscles, base morphs, and elite. If I then try and load an article of clothing like the bodysuit that comes with v4, after conforming the bodysuit most of the morphs work. But if I try to use any of the Muscle morphs they dont seem to work with the bodysuit and poke through.ย

At the same time if I use any of the Elite body shapes, or morph++ dials they all seem to work fine and dandy.

I've also tried loading some additional morphs like WonderBreast form curves and the morphs just seem to imediately poke through on the body suit.

I recently upgraded to poser2014 and thought the "copy morphs" feature woud fix this. So after conforming the clothing I try and copy the morphs and that still doesnt seem to solv the issue, Any thoughts, Im pretty lost lol.

hborre ( ) posted Sun, 15 December 2013 at 8:55 AM

Did you attempt to add the magnet sets for the clothing? ย There are magnetize props for Vicky 4 to help clothing better fit her shapes. ย Also, there are several options to select under Properties/Parameters for each item of clothing for better fit. ย

Couple of tips: if you are using clothing that covers most of the body, you can make her body parts invisible so they won't poke through. ย Unfortunately, this is not feasible with scantily fitting clothing. ย Your best bet under those circumstances would be to use PP2014's morphing brush to loosen those illfitting areas.ย

So Ive been having so much fun with this program that I've neglected to seek help on an issue thats been bugging me. ย I picked up V4-WM, but im having troubles getting it to work in pp2014. ย I've followed the instructions it came with but i cant get anything to show up in the scripts menu.

I made a seperate folder for the v4-wm files and it seemed to load into poser no problem. But following the instructions it came with i need to run a script and its not showing up for some reason.

If i manually look up the files in the runtime, in the python folder the poserplace script im looking for shows up. So I know its there it just seems I'm doing something wrong. Any thoughts?

Detrick420 ( ) posted Tue, 14 January 2014 at 4:47 PM ยท edited Tue, 14 January 2014 at 4:48 PM

In another attempt to figure this out I also put the V4wm files in the runtime where v4.2 is located. In the librarys menu in the python folder the poserplace script still shows up but if i run poser and look under the scripts tab its still not there unfortunately.

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 16 January 2014 at 6:57 PM

You must place it into ScriptsMenu for it to show up in Poser. ย The complete path is:

PythonposerScriptsScriptsMenu

Detrick420 ( ) posted Thu, 16 January 2014 at 9:35 PM

Ok in the scripts menu folder I have a folder called PoserPlace, and in it is the weight pose file.

This is in the runtime that I also have v4 in.

Also in that same runtime in the goemetry foler I ย have all the files that should be there according to the instructions.

does it need to go in the pp2014 runtime? I dont know Im a lil clueless on what else to try. ย But like always thanks hborre for trouble shooting this with me.

hborre ( ) posted Fri, 17 January 2014 at 3:46 PM

The answer is yes. ย All Python script must go into the application runtime folder. ย Those are the only exceptions when placing content into their proper locations especially when dealing with external files. ย It will work properly even under UAC protected security under Vista/Win7/8.

RainbowGypsy ( ) posted Sat, 18 January 2014 at 12:34 AM

Ok, I'm going to try and be brave and ask probably a really dumb question. ย But I can't find an answer to it and I have searched a few forums and the ever so useful reference manual (tongue in cheek).

I have been using Poser 7.... well just by that you know it is lots of years. ย I just got Poser Pro 2014 and am actually want to keep it clean and only install the characters I use etc. ย So I started with V4. ย Did all the necessary things, initialized her and everything installed ok, except when I open Poser Pro the Daz folder where I would normally find V4 is not in the library? ย The install path was correct it was installing toย

C:Program Files (x86)Smith MicroPoser Pro 2014

It is a big step going from Poser 7 to 2014. ย The biggest of which is the library and I'll be damned if I can figure out how to load my new characters in so I can find them and use them.

ย

Sorry if this is a newbie question that gets asked all the time. ย I tried to do a search in the forum so as not to bother anyone but couldn't get a hit.

ย

Your help and patience is greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much

RainbowGypsy

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sat, 18 January 2014 at 10:01 AM

You shouldn't install to the application folder - it's no longer the default location for the main Runtime folder, and is an actively bad idea if you are using Windows Vista or later (unless you have turned all the security features off). The default location for the Poser content is in Smith MicroPoserPro 2014 Content in your Public Documents folder, as I recall, so you should either install V4 there or to another content library if you want to keep the V4 stuff separate from the base content - in any event, you should uninstall the files you placed in the application folder as Poser will find the readscripts there and if you later install other morph expansions that could cause conflicts.

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 18 January 2014 at 11:59 AM

Agreed. ย For the most part, you can create a separate, external runtime for V4 and content. ย Carefully read the default installations for PP2014, Programs Files folder is no longer the default destination. ย The old ways no longer apply.

As a side note, upgrading to PP2014 from P7 will mean that you unlearn the old methods of doing things. ย Gamma correction is a prominent feature in the Pro versions; learn about it how lighting has dramatically changed because of it. ย IDL is another feature; also come to terms how it also influences light set ups. ย

You have a lot to relearn if you want to use this application successfully.

RainbowGypsy ( ) posted Sat, 18 January 2014 at 12:47 PM

Wow thanks guys that is the opposite of what I had to do with the past version. ย

I know the learning curve will be big but I really want to be able to use the new features and enhancements. ย I already noticed the lighting was more responsive and more easily adjusted to get very awesome results.ย

I'll be doing tutorials and probably hanging out here a whole lot. ย Thanks so much for your help.

Im sill strugling with some clothing issues and wanted run something by some experienced users. ย

I have a morphed figure in which an article of cothing does not fit in the chest reigon. Before conforming the clothing item i mess with the scale and some adjustments so it looks ok. ย I then go to the fitting room and set up a fitting session and after running the fit it looks pretty darn good from a beginers standpoint.

I then create the new figure and go back to the pose room and there are now two coppies of the clothing. the first is the original which i delete and the second is the new fitted peice.

Now heres my problem if i try and conform the new cothing it conforms but also seems to grow in scale. I've tried this on several different articles of clothing and several different figures. The end result always seems the same it looks good before i conform but once i do all the sudden the article is like 25% larger.

I was wondering how all of you go about adding bones and setting groups to those bones.

ย

I've been playing around and I made myself a single piece mesh. I gave it multiple materials to make grouping easier. I export it (as obj file), inport it into poser (10). I (click it) go to setup room and start adding bones. I make them go where they should be, rename them, blah higharchy blah blah. Then I group them. But then I go the pose room and it either act like nothings happened or I get the Hip, Neck, Head, and maybe a few other actually bond to bones. I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong or if there is a better way to go about this.ย

After running the cloth sim, I sometimes export the cloth as an obj file and then reimport it. That saves the changes the cloth sim created. You can parent it to the figure and it will save if you save the figure as a group.

This example is for V4.

Fed up loading V4 and then adding the morphs etc.

Can I ask why so much focus seems to go on V4? I've been using Daz to create images but now I want to get into animation, for which Poser seems much better suited. I tried to get my Genesis figures into Poser using the DSON, but after hours of frustration I had to give up. So now I'm focussing on using Roxie, but there's so little content for her, yet so much for V4, I'm left to wonder why this is and get very frustrated that so much of the content I want to use seems to be designed for a character I'm unable to use, because I was thwarted in my attempts to get her into Poser.

Any advice/info would be very much appreciated.

hborre ( ) posted Fri, 11 April 2014 at 10:38 AM

V4 has been around much longer than Roxie and, still, is promoted and used heavily. ย Her added advantage, as a DAZ figure, is her conversion to weightmapping. ย

Roxie is a Poser legacy figure and unfortunately, many legacy figures through the years have not been promoted too well. ย For content, you will need to search around. ย If you have PP2014, the fitting room would be your best bet to try and convert clothing.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Fri, 11 April 2014 at 3:20 PM

Victoria 4 does not need the DSON Importer, the figure is supplied in Poser format.

Thanks, the penny's dropped on that question now, and I've now gone ahead and purchased V4.2 and 4.2 Morphs ++.

However, having done so and loaded her into Poser, I'm again a bit baffled because it seems to add a morph I have to load it from the content library, and only then will a morph dial appear in parameters so I can adjust it as I like. Then for each subsequent morph I have to go through the same process again and again, which seems tedious to say the least. Is that how it works with V4 in Poser, or am I doing something (probably extremely obvious) wrong?

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 17 April 2014 at 11:45 AM

There is one icon entitled Morphs ++ย that will load all the morph dials at once. ย It is generally one folder level above the individual morphs. ย The problem with loading all morphs into V4 is that it makes the figure file very large when saved. ย

Thanks hborre, I think I've found that and applied it, which seems to do the trick.

I hope I've got her properly loaded though, as I originally put her into an external runtime, only to then read the help notes and discover that that's unadvisable, whereupon I moved her to the main Poser runtime. The trouble is it's very easy to get a bit lost, so I hope I now have all the right files in all the right places.

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 17 April 2014 at 2:32 PM

What you read is really a myth. ย V4 and her morph packs can be placed into an external runtime, but they must be together in the same runtime. ย That is the requirement. ย I have my original V4 and Morph ++ pack in my Poser 7 runtime and that folder is linked to my PoserPro, PP2010, PP2012, and PP2014. ย She still works like a charm.

Thanks again; I wish I knew that before I spent more time moving her from one runtime to another. Having said that, I couldn't get the V4 to V3 to work. I kept getting a pop up telling me some files couldn't be found, and then every element of the hierarchy popped up to tell me it couldn't be found either, so I had to go through the very tedious task of clicking each pop up off before I could carry on. Since moving that file to the Poser runtime I've not tried to see if it now works, though, because I daren't risk it still not working and having to go through that very annoying process yet again.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Fri, 18 April 2014 at 2:04 PM

Although the installer runs the "updater" for Victoria 4, it doesn't run the one for V4 to V3. You need to go to RuntimeLibraries!DAZ and run the DzCreateExPFiles-V4V3 for your operating system (.bat for Windows, .command for Mac).

Me again, I'm afraid. I've just been doing some dabbling with soft and hard body physics, and I'm really excited by the way it works and the possibilities it offers, yet very frustrated too because for some reason Andy keeps falling through the ground plane.

I'm using 2014 Pro, and I've used a sphere from props to hit Andy in the hip region, and whilst I recognise that I've got some fine tuning to be done to the soft and hard physics, as a beginner I'm pretty buoyed by the results. HOWEVER, I can't stop Andy sliding down through the floor (ground). Having watched countless tutorials over the last year or so I seem to recall there's a simple solution for this, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is. So if someone can help I will once again be extremely grateful.ย

Now.......

Under the Poser Menu which is probably the first one at the top of the screen (Poser may be in bold face) select Preferences. Click on the "radio button" for Launch to Preferred Screen Click on Set Preferred Scene Click OK button at bottom of pop up window Exit Poser and Restart. If you held your mouth right you should get the factory screen but without Andy 2 It should also say No Figure

I'm total newbie so my question is: How to reduce the number of frames in an animation? I have animation containing 15 frames and I need to shorten it to 12. Is there any easy way to do this? I've tried Animation>Retime Animation but it doesn't seem to work. I don't want to cut the last 3 frames. I'd like to rescale it somehow.

3DFineries ( ) posted Fri, 11 March 2016 at 8:21 AM

You would lose the last frames. To edit frames, go to the animation palette along the bottom of Poser (should be on by default), click the last box & type in whatever number of frames you want to have total. It'll ask you if you want to delete the frames, click yes. You could also just start your animation at the first frame you want so you don't lose the last ones.

Have a creative day!

This happens on most of my renders using the superfly render engine in the latest Poser Pro. There has be a better, and quicker way of fixing this than tweeking settings in the material editor. I've spent hours on this, tweeking, area render, tweeking, area render, with virtually no difference.

hborre ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2016 at 7:47 AM

Screencap the Advance tab of the Material Room, that is the only place you will make progress in fixing this issue. It may take rearranging some nodes; shader node arrangements for older content do not comply with Superfly hierarchy and will therefore not render correctly.

I'm trying to figure out how to save and load a pose without its feet or hands poking into the ground while interchanging between a set of poses. Yes this isn't about the Inverse Kinematics. Saving with 'Body transformation does solve this, but it also loads every pose to center of screen. Q; how do I save and load a pose on the set perimeters/translations without it changing when ever I switch to different poses of a set. I understand that Rendo has a policy of 'Poses' that should not load back to center, but be able to change its pose at current placement/position. But only saving with transformation seems to get my figures from not poking to ground or floating. What's the solution?

Hi All,

This thread is potentially a godsend for me being an utter newbie and feeling overwhelmed by the help that is available in forums, youtube and about a million other places on the web! There's nothing like asking some experts though - once I learn something I figure I'll know it forever :)

So...

I'm planning to use Poser to make some wrestling stories for Deviant Art collections. So far, I've bought and installed Poser 11, purchased DAZ Victoria 4.2 Pro (with the ++ morphs) and also have a lot of experience working in 2D with Photoshop.

Usingh the basic tutorials and a bit of common sense, I have started designing some characters in Poser (facial details, body shape etc.)

I'm now at the stage where I want to dress my characters with hair and simple fighting costumes and this is where I'm getting stuck...

I have a basic hair model from Renderosity and have learned how to scale it and attach it to a character's head. Clothing is tricky though...

Any V4 clothes that I try to attach rarely fit the character that I've made - arm and torso muscle that is morphed from the basic V4 poke through the clothing (even if I put the clothing on and morph the muscle later, it will break through the cloth). Similarly, when I pose the figure, the clothing doesn't move with it.

I realise that you're probably laughing now as I'm making a schoolboy error and have no understanding of how this thing works. Even if someone could point me to the right tutorial I'd appreciate it.

I also considered that I could just 'paint' the costumes on my characters - they are wrestlers after all so the clothing will be quite a snuig fit, however, this seems like a compromise as I also want to work with gloves, belts, boots and other props that can't simply be painted onto flesh.

I have a million other questions I need to answer before I get going with my fights (I've story-boarded hundreds of scenes and shots already) but the more I can figure out for myself - with the odd helpful push from you guys - is the best way to go I think.

Any helpers?

Thanks :)

If I'm not mistaken, maybe you forgot to 'conform' the clothes to the figure. Unless the clothes are 'dynamic clothes', you would require 'conforming' it, which is just at the right-click option of the clothing figure. Once conformed also you might have some poke through depending on the body shape of the figure. But for most of the recent V4 'conforming' clothes standard and various body morphs are available, so that you can tweak fit them easily. Once you get the hang of all this clothing should be easy. Dynamic clothes are a different case, but it tends to be more realistic than conforming clothing, but it requires a pose simulation-animation to fit. There are very good tutorials on youtube if you wanna learn dynamic clothing. Hope this helped. Since you never mentioned the 'conforming' part of clothing, I figured it maybe the cause of your issue there. Cheers

Nails60 ( ) posted Wed, 21 March 2018 at 11:01 AM

Ok, assuming you have created your characters by using the dials and adjusting the morphs, for conforming clothing to fit it has to have the morphs in it. Most clothing will have, this will normally be spelled out in the clothing description from the vendor. If this is the case, select the body of the clothing, not an individual body part and go to the properties tab next to the parameters tab where the dials are. You will see a number of check boxes there under the heading when conforming. Make sure the first 3 are checked (include morphs, include scales and match end points. Hopefully this should help, but sometimes at extreme values of body morphs you still get problems, in which case you have to use other methods such as hiding body parts or using the morph brushes.

shed_e ( ) posted Wed, 21 March 2018 at 11:33 AM ยท edited Wed, 21 March 2018 at 11:36 AM

I'm still not entirely sure whether it is 'conforming' clothes or 'dynamic' clothes you're using. You've mentioned the clothes doesn't move with the pose. If it's conforming, which assume it is more, since you're talking about morphs and pokes, you just need to conform it first if you haven't. Then follow the suggestions stated by @Nails60 above, it should help. Dynamic clothes really does not poke at all when done right. There are plenty of good tutorials on youtube regarding both conforming and dynamic clothes.

ReggieKowalski ( ) posted Wed, 21 March 2018 at 12:29 PM

Hi - thanks for your reply.

Yes - I can use 'conform' to get the clothes in synch with the poses but I'm still struggling to get the clothes to fit when I first load them I'm using some army pants - free Renderosity content from 'William The Bloody' (!) and I can't get them to fit - despite his ReadMe text saying they conform to V4...

I can drag the pants onto my character then morph each part to fit but they're still tricksy. Maybe I need to find more content... He did mention that I can remove the character's thighs using the Hierarchy editor which is what I'll do in the short term.

Meantime, I'll get watching tutorials. Thanks again,

RSK

I try to avoid the hierarchy editor whenever I can, it's not difficult, I just find in tedious scrolling through a long list of parts till I get to the right one.

Just try selecting the thighs and then unchecking visble in the properties panel.

Hi all,

I've learned a million things in the short month since I purchased Poser. I reckon I'm well on the way to 5% competent... (OK - maybe 3.5%...)

Here's one that is eluding me though:

Camera views orbiting the right object and/or place.

Some figures and props that I've downloaded have a very odd setting when I try to rotate the view using the 'trackball' tool in Camera Controls.

For example when I track around Andy, the main camera scoots around him neatly as though there's an invisible sphere around him and the camera is on the surface of it, pointing at him as I spin and move. Cool.

However, I have a boxing ring which, when loaded, sets the 'sphere' at one of the corner posts - meaning that when I rotate, most of the ring shoots out of sight, only returning as I come back to a full 360. Ideally, I want the camera rotation axis to be at the centre of the ring so that I can keep everything in view as I spin.

Of course I understand that I can move this axis myself by using the up/down/left/right/in/out controls above the trackball but this takes a lot of faff so I assume there must be a simple way to pin the rotational axis of the camera.

One other quick example: hand and face cameras are perfect in this respect: they orbit the chosen item neatly.

I'd be grateful if someone could help - even a simple link to a tutorial would be great. I don't seem to be asking Google the right questions to find this myself!

Thanks ๐Ÿ˜ RSK

The main camera by default rotates around the centre of the scene. It just happens that Andy stands at the centre and most figures when loaded will also start at the centre (their x,,y and z transitions set to zero). The pose camera of course rotates around the centre of the selected figure.

Using the main camera, at the top right of the preview window you will find some buttons after the render buttons (the cameras). The first one has brackets, and when you select this it moves the camera to view the selected object- ignore this, the second button when you select it causes the camera to rotate around the selected object. Try selecting the ring now and see if the camera rotates as you want.

If it doesn't a quick fix is to load a prop such as the ball from the primitives and move this to the middle of the ring and make it invisible. Now when you want to rotate the camera select the invisible ball and it will rotate around this provided you have the second button selected.

Well, that's how I would do it, but I've only been using poser for 3 years and so only know about 10% of it!

If you post your problems as new threads in the new poser users section of the forum you might get more help, the Rendo notification system only tells you when you are the last person to post, so I only noticed this because I was last poster before you on this thread.
