Thread: OT: Now we're doomed??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Damn, doomed if you do, doomed if you don't! Well, not really "doomed if you don't", I think it's best to avoid the water until you know for certain. We had a bad water thing up here a few years back... safe to bath in, but not safe to drink... Lasted two weeks in some areas.
Oh and Merry Xmas... drink wine.

That said I always liked the Tomb Raider themed stuff and always thought I should grab it up before it might get pulled... you know, for fan -art. Damned I'm too late! lol.

Quote - But it's EA (the release company of the property) that's probably put out the cease and desist letters. It's foolish. First, neither EA or the creators sell 3d meshes. Secondly, anyone who creates artwork inspired by their product is giving them free advertising. Thirdly, people looking at the artwork often research the theme, discover the game, and possibly buy the game. So what have we learned. EA games wants no free advertising. Let's do them a favor and ban all EA related game talk. Any artwork that happens to be inspired by such, well artists shouldn't mention or give them any credit. If EA games.
Think what you would like about how "fair" it is for you to be able to use a copyrighted character to create fan art, but when it comes to a vendor or marketplace profitting off of a copyright that is another issue entirely.
Copyright owners do not look kindly upon others profitting from their work.
Furthermore, Renderosity (or any marketplace) has a standard license agreement for the customer that grants them usage of items purchased for commercial use. Renderosity cannot back that license up if the item sold does not have legal clearance.
Anyone who finds anything in the marketplace that might be questionable should report it.
Content creators should keep things that are fan-based as free items clearly marked as not available for commercial usage. This does not excuse them from copyright laws, but it usually places them far enough under the radar to avoid legal entanglements. (ie: fan-fic, fan-art, etc...)
Since people seem to think that images are somhow immune to copyright laws, let me use the following as an example. You cannot publish and sell a Batman comic book unless you are DC comics (or somehow get permission from DC as Dark Horse once did).
Why would you think you can publish and sell a 3D morph and clothing set of Tomb Raider? (granted, shorts, t-shirt and holsters are pretty generic on their own - we can all identify the combination and we all know what was for sale since the advertising gratuitiously rode on the groundwork laid down by the copyright owner.)
Thread: New Characters and Exotic Shaders | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ah, a lighting issue.
I too have run into this. A set up (usually on skin) that requires more light or less light then something with a simple diffuse/specular set up.
I would like to see vendors (and some do) make two texture versions of their products.
For one, if I am mixing characters from two different vendors, the skin set ups can be very different and I am forced to go through and manually change a lot of parameters. I would be just as happy to start from scratch.
Two, if I am going to be taking this over into another application (such as Carrara) I really don't need all the "exotic" material shaders.
Still, I wouldn't want anyone to stop with really great shaders, just an option for with or without would be a nice touch.

Wait! Wait! Is the party still going? I'm only a three day drive from you... well... if I drive through the night!
Ah well... next time. I've only been to Winnipeg once, when I was 10. Raised in Regina, now in BC. The Prairies are too cold! lol.
Enjoy the sound!
Thread: [Semi-OT] Who's the oldest, still active member here? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm just waiting for all the old members to stroll off and forget about this place so i can be the oldest member! Mwa-ha-ha-ha!!!
Hey, that's my evil plan. One has to have evil plans!
Hmmm... apparently I've been a member for 5 years! Wow how time flies!
Thread: Attaching a Polygon | Forum: Carrara
Oh, l agree. I have Hexagon, Truespace, Bryce and a number of the great free programs.
I'm just trying to learn Carrara... finally... I think it is the most expensive program I own. I bought version 5 way back when it was on sale when Daz first got it. Then I decided to upgrade to Pro... then Version 6 and now Version 7. I have paid every step of the way and not always when it was on sale.
I have finally decided that I have to make this investment worth something to me and learn this damn program! lol.
After I model something, I might move onto learning about particles... I'm really going to have to get all of Mark's Tutorials soon.
Now, if only work wouldn't get in the way! lol.
Thread: Attaching a Polygon | Forum: Carrara
Ah...
I went in and started working closer, trying to clean things up, and I found that the large poly at the back had 6 vertices. Two were hiden behind two others... I wonder if that had anything to do with it not working.
Oh well, I have gone a completely different route... but silly me not to have thought of extrusion. Thanks!

Oh, and to clarify, the hollowed out portion in the ship's mesh is not from deleted polygons, it is pushed and shaped in so that I have a full mesh, with thickness to the walls and such.
