I'll to render to see if it actually works, but I think I figured out the transparency aspect. I was just applying transparency to the skullcap itself, but forgot about applying it to all the material zones. Now it's transparent in preview, at least, so will see what happens....

Thanks. In this case, I actually am trying to make the whole thing transparent. It's an old skullcap trick I had because it accomplished things that just unchecking Visible in the Properties tab didn't do. With full transparency on, I use to check Light Emitter and Visible in Raytracing in the Properties tab, and for some reason I could get away with a lot lower hair density without getting a bald scalp. (In PP2014, this did generally result in some artifacts, mind you.)
I'm actually not sure if the trick will work in Superfly, but thought it was worth a shot.

Looks like I've tracked this down via the Windows Reliability Monitor. Turns out there was an AdAware DLL file causing the trouble. (Years ago, AdAware was a recommended app, but apparently it's pretty much malware now.) Malwarebytes AdwCleaner got that cleaned out and the current Poser update now starts without crashing.
Thanks for your help, everyone.

Thanks, ironsoul. The external library trick in that thread does not solve the issue.

Can you try rendering using CPU instead of nVidia ? Do get the same problem ?
This has nothing to do with rendering. It crashes as soon as I open Poser (when I attempt to use recent updates).

What is the message in normal mode?
Just the usual generic Windows message. "Poser Pro executable file has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I should add that I also just updated my video driver, so that's not the issue.

Maybe I'll try again. Previous update or two, Poser crashed as soon as I started it, so I had to roll back.

Thanks. Definitely important to know it's still Nvidia only! Looking more & more like the 1060 is the best option.

I've always only used actual nVidia drivers, but your comment prompted me to make sure I was updated to the latest version to see if that would make a difference. No luck, upon install and startup of SR5, Poser Pro 11 immediately crashed. Once again I've rolled back to 11.0.1.31230, and everything seems fine once more.
Granted, I'm running a relatively low level graphics card (GeForce 550Ti), but I don't think I should be having these problems.

Thread: superfly renders? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Here's a character I'm working on for the next volume in my medievalesque fantasy series. The face is largely dial tweaks. Skin is modified from the DAZ Maya texture. The hair is a bit of a work in progress in the Poser Hair Room. Rendered in Superfly, no postwork.

Maxidyne, that MG looks fabulous. Is that a Firefly or Superfly render? Did you tweak materials at all, or just use Nationale's?

Well, the story gets weirder. When I upgraded from SR1 to SR4 this time around, I got the same issue (immediate crashing). So had to roll back again to SR1. I've even tried disabling my Avira A/V and Firewall, but doesn't help.

Could you file this crash with support.smithmicro.com I can't imagine why anything that was changed would cause a crash on launch. I'd really like for the devs to get a read on this. I want you to be able to use SuperFly in the background too,
Nerd, I'm not getting any sort of reset password option. (To be precise, the system is not sending me the emails with the reset instructions.) Are there problematic sideeffects if I open another support account? (I.e. is that going to lose my account history etc, or is support completely separate from that?)
