Oh, you mean you used this rendered sky as a backdrop in Poser? Well, in this case, it may well comes from too low res a render? Which format is it? I would suggest 16bit tiff, tiff is uncompressed to avoid pixellation, and 16bit to avoid banding.

He was probably using Spectral 1 clouds, or old MetaClouds. Using Spectral 2 clouds doesn't create such artifacts, but it can also be down to the cloud model he used, some have nicer density production than others. It's hard to tell without sdeeing the render.

Strata do happen with this fractal, but not "in your face" like with the usual strata filter It happens on certain surfaces, normally steep eroded slopes. Look for this type of relief in your terrain. But I agree, doesn't happen with each terrain, it really depends on the variety of altitudes the fractal will produce.

I meant never use a Layer material as a base material, you can of course use a Layer material onto a base material.

If you paint from top view, chexck the "restrict to selected object" box. And read the manual :-)

Viewport response when painting is done by graphic card. Deepending on its specs it can be lagging, or even become unresponsive. Downgrading OpenGL display can help (either globally from Options, on a per viewport basis, or on an ecosystem species basis)
If you have plants on tree tops, it's because you didn't check what object to paint. By not doing so, it paints everywhere the mouse is passed.
I recommend reading your Vue manual.
