I just did some quick experimenting in the Terrain Editor (Vue 4.03), and I discovered three things of interest and one bug: 1) The "Stones" button is pressure sensitive. The longer you hold the button down with the mouse pointer, the larger the resulting stones. To create small stones, try clicking the "Stones" button VERY quickly. 2) You can select the "Options" button at the bottom left of the Terrain Editor to bring up the "Fractal Terrrain Options" dialog. If you create a flatten Altitude filter , you create smaller stones. However, the entire map is filtered, hence flattened. 3) The Fractal Terrain Options dialog has a bug. If you hit Escape key or select the X-button, the result is not a Cancel, but an Okay. 4) Changes to the filters in the Fractal Terrrain Options dialog are persistent an atypical behavior for filters. The Terrain Editor was where I experienced my a crash-bug in Vue 4.01 as a new user. I had the set the terrain polygon count to 1024x1024 and the Editor would crash repeatedly.

I've had some trouble importing large .cob files (sizes over 4-5 mb. in size). The import process would fail completely. I have 512 mb RAM and had Windows Me at the time. I was also using Vue 4.02. I don't know if that problem has been fixed in 4.03 version, or if the problem had to do with Windows Me (that wouldn't surprise at all!). Charles

Sorry, I forgot to post the link to nVidia's website in my previous post. CharlesCharles

If you are running a nVidia chipset on your graphics card (ie. TNT & GeForce), you may want to check out their latest video card driver (Detonator 23.11 released Dec 5, 2001). I was having lingering problems with OpenGL, same as you, until I installed their latest driver just a few days ago. Charles

I did a clean install of Windows XP several days ago. Vue 4.03's OpenGL usage was out of sync or something. OpenGL had been working with Windows Me and Vue 4.03. The above URL post is about a GeForce Tweak utility. With the utility, I was able to fix my OpenGL problems. Check the above link to read the thread. CharlesCharles
Thread: OpenGL issues, an interesting Message from Greg Hess | Forum: Vue
Greg, Thanks for the help. Vue 4 is now working again. I did a clean install of Windows XP a few days ago, and the Open GL drivers would not work as they did in Windows Me. I'm using GeForce2 32 from Dell. Charles

Thread: Which is best for rendering:increased RAM, or more powerful processor? | Forum: Vue
I have two Intel P3 cpu computers. One runs at 1000 ghz. and another at 500 ghz. The 1000 ghz. renders the same scene in half the time as the 500 ghz. However, I ran out of memory on one project (512 mb.). But I was using Win Me. My next computer will have more RAM for sure.
