import a poser fig to max at 1000 for refreance, and export your model at .001

I use max but it should be the same setup as maya. lets say you have a tv, the tv screen polys would be material id 1, and the body polys would be id 2 {multi materials}
you could also import a poser prop that has 2 or more materials and see the setup in maya
as for exporting the prop if you want them to be separate you have to export each one on its own
but I think uvmapper can do this as well for you. good luck

If IÂ weld, I'll lose vertices and so it won't work. IÂ tried grouping and using Edit Mesh, but as soon as IÂ use the Smooth Selection tool to move vertices, it'll do it separating each individual poly group.
I'm learning Blender right now. Its fast and nice but I don't see why going to Blender if IÂ already use 3DSÂ Max.
you need shaper by masa what it does, basicly it creates 1 solid mesh of your obj I send it to max
make my morphs bring back to shaper it returns the solid mesh too , body parts I then bring these back to max and export as morphs like you do now.
shaper is free but you have to request unlock code for special functoin from owner simple email gets it
also there are other tools that import the morphs so you dont have to do the last step in max

I think he means groups, lcollar chest rcollar ect. as one, if so you need, masa's **Â ** "shaper" what happens is when you attach the groups as 1 mesh and weld the verts the vert orders changes and it wont load back to poser.

I had this problem recently on prop I modified, If you turn off smooth polys in object properties it might work for you.

I'm out, and can't access my 3D programs now. So It may not precise, but my workflow is:
.Export figure geometry from Poser.
 Check 'Include Body Part Name' only, uncheck all other.
 DO NOT check 'weld' and 'As morph target' options..Load obj file to Shaper
 Special Function -> Fusion
 This unified all body part as one part, and weld vertices.
 Save..In any modelar program, modify figure object.
 DO NOT add/remove vertices/edges/polygons.
 Vertices order is not important.
 Save obj..Load Modified obj to Shaper
 Special Function -> To Original
 This restore original body parts.
 Save obj..Load original figure cr2 file to PFE.
 Tools -> Create Morph.
 Specify modified obj file from Shaper.
 If you want to make ValueParm in body, check Full Body Morph option.
 Save new Cr2 file as modified figure. Done.

shaper sounds like something I would like to try, I followed your instuctions but I am doing some thing wrong
I loaded poser export, hit fusion and saved loaded fig to modeler made changes now do I save
as new obj or over write this one,
Iam lost any help ?

Mr bagginsbill reg. veins in your first vss prop you had a "spots node", you could could change the spots to a veins map, change the color and use the proper dispacement, I think it would produce a

one way, export the clothing as obj make sure you weld the verts i do this in a 3dprogram re import
you should now have one solid piece of clothing, then clothify it, if you have buttons belts or other things more tweeking is req.
if you do not have acseess to a 3d program I think uv mapper does this as well
thier is also a script, convert figure to prop, the key is to "weld the verts"
