I do mostly modeling. By necessity I have to UV map and texture my stuff, but I really hate UV mapping and making specialized texturing is a bit of a pain. Rigging... well... I use a plugin to automatically rig clothing, and I've never tried to rig anything else except for a few poorly modeled clothes when I was first starting trying to make original content. I'm okay with shaders, but I don't always know how to use them to their best advantage. And finally, I know nothing about spell writing... um, I mean, Python scripting. I'll happily join the ranks of hopeful Jacks of All Trades. (And hopefully someday I will have earned the title of Master Modeler... dreaming is fun, right ?)

Quote - > Quote - Modellers are not smart guys, they are just people who understand quantum physics, sorcery, magic and other arts not available to us mere mortals....
...I think in medieval times they were the sort of people who used to get burnt at the stake for doing stuff other people didn't understand...
Those weren't the modelers...those were the folks who did the rigging. I think they used to call them alchemists ;o)....lmao
Laurie
We modelers were the witches. The riggers were the alchemists. Now the UV Mappers, they were hailed as mythical heroes in some areas
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to consult my volume of arcane lore--um, I mean, the user manual...

Thank you soooo much for that website link! I have a project running that I am going to need sound effects for eventually, and that website looks to be exactly what I'm looking for

Quote - the best thing that could be done to a V5 model is .....
Dont make it.
I actually agree wholeheartedly. Victoria is nice, now somebody do something with a different model! But my guess is that as long as Victoria continues to be popular, DAZ will keep making new models of her
That is a good tip about the texture size! I will have to give that a try next time I'm doing a multi-character render.

My wishlist for Victoria 5:
--Poser 7 compatable, because not all of us have the funds to run out and get the latest and greatest edition when we have one that works
--Fewer polygons, so I can place two or three ladies in a scene without fouling up my computer
--Body shape morphs for individual body parts so that we can give a figure, say, skinny arms but muscular legs
--Morphs and a good texture included (or if that would make the figure too expensive, then fine! Charge for the figure--it's practically charged for anyway by the time you're done buying the stuff you need to make a nice image.)
That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure I'll come up with some more.

Thread: What dynamic clothes for V4/M4 would you like to see? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I would like to see more ordinary clothes, not fantasy or sci-fi (although those are awesome too ) but suit skirts and denim skirts and maybe a few dresses. I'm with Kalypso that I'd like to see more of the things that don't work well with conforming clothing. Also, is it possible to put morphs in the clothing to match the figure morphs? I don't do a lot of dynamic clothing, so I don't know if that's possible, but I've come across a few dynamic clothes that are pretty, but don't work well with characters with body shapes other than the default.

I would be interested in seeing the work behind it (although I second nruddock's suggestion that a PDF might make it easier to work with the equations). Not sure if it will make any sense, since I think I've forgotten almost everything from my high school calculus class, but I'd like to take a look at it anyway. Maybe it will inspire me to go find my old textbooks and learn some of it again.

Thread: What make Victoria 4 so popular? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I agree with hborre like everyone else. I also have a theory that the earlier versions of Vicky were better than the figures included with Poser at the time, and the current popularity is a holdover from then. Can't be sure, though, since I wasn't involved in CG at the time; that's just a possible explanation I've thought of.

Thread: Transparency map with Alternate_Specular node? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Absolutely, here it is.
The transparency map was just drawn in Photoshop. I used the same material minus the transparency map to do the rest of the metal in the earrings. I don't know why the part with the transparency turned out darker than the rest of the metal, but I don't mind because most of these sort of earrings have an antiqued finish on the filigree piece anyway.

Thread: Transparency map with Alternate_Specular node? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yes, I suppose it would have been more helpful if I had thought to leave the nodes open to show what was going on inside them :blushing: Sorry about that.
But I hooked the transparency map up to the Ks parameter in my Glossy node, and it worked! (BagginsBill, you're amazing. I never would have thought of that--I was trying to use some sort of math node to combine the map with the Glossy output.) I might tweak the material a little more, but there's no more stray reflections as you can see:

That gold outfit is a good use of nodes, but I already tried that arrangement and it didn't work  dlfurman is right that there seems to be something special about the Alt_Specular node that doesn't work like the ordinary Specular node.

Thread: Arrgh! Poser folder organization | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm experiencing the same thing right now. Kind of funny, seeing as how my "organizational approach" is along the lines of "remember where you dropped it". Guess that means my runtime is really bad, if even I can't find anything? Here's the thread I posted recently about the same subject: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2810333
I've been taking it a little at a time, starting with my character (figure) library. So far I've made three folders for human figures (from SM, DAZ, and other places) and one folder for animals. I'm also planning to end up with folders for vehicles and buildings/scenery. When I get to the other libraries, I'm planning to sort by the same six top-level folders, and then sort by the figure/vehicle/scene/theme an item of content goes with. Probably my Pose folder will have subfolders under each figure for MATs, INJs, and positioning poses.

Thread: Baby/Toddler hair? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks for the tips, everyone. Unfortunately the Baybee hair isn't quite what I need  Thanks for the link though, I'll bookmark it so I have it if I do another baby project in the future. It looks like I'm going to have to make my own hair. There's not much stock content for the babies, is there?
