dirk5027,
I wasn't talking about likeness, I was talking about body types and face types. To clarify:
M2 is to a Caucasian male as M3 is to Multiethnic male.
M3 reminds me of the following celebrities:
Brandon Lee
Caucasian + Chinese Multiethnic
Brandon's multiethnic face type is very much like M3's face type.
Brandon's cut and toned body type is very much like M3's body type.
The Rock
Black + Hawaiian Multiethnic
The Rock's multiethnic face type is like M3's face type.
Vin Desil
Black(?) + Latino(?) Multiethnic
Vin Desil's multiethnic face type is like M3's face type.
Brad Pitt
Caucasian male.
Brad's face type is similar to M3's.
Brad's cut and toned body type is like M3's body type.
Conclusion?
I suspect DAZ was using the golden ratio with M3 and averaging multiple male faces to get an ideal. (Ethnicity melts away when averaging.) You can read more about this here:
http://tlc.discovery.com/convergence/humanface/humanface.html
There is also a book that went with this program, and you can also find a wealth for info about the science of beauty ideals in the library. Be sure to check out back issues of Discover magazine too.
Now about M2...
He's got a fleshiness to him M3 doesn't have. A good example of this kind of body type would be Russell Crowe in Gladiator. For the lack of a better term, I'll call his shape in that movie "muscular phat." Bruce Willis, Sean Connery, Hulk Hogan (and pretty much all wrestlers) I would classify as "muscular phat" and they all have the kind of manliness (face and body type) I associate with M2's look. In fact, Sean Connery, back at the start of his career, was Mr. Universe and his shape was not unlike M2's.
But personally, I prefer to set M2 to: Thin .250, Tone .250, Heavy -.050, in order to get what I consider to be a more ideal male body shape. (My tastes are more Jim Morrison than Arnold Swartzenager.)
Maybe somewhere between M2 and M3 is a good looking male mesh everyone will like. Maybe I'll try morphing the M3/M2 Figure halfway towards M3's shape to see what I get. Could be interesting. ;)

Carolly, I'm into historically accurate costumes too. If anyone wants to make authentic Egyptian wear, I'm a wealth of information. I can hook you up with more resources and scans than you'll ever need. ;) bB

Okay, here's a few more things I would like: Barn Jacket Windbreaker Peacoat Baggy Pajama bottoms Turtleneck (too not thick and woolly though) T-shirt with length options (tucked, untucked) and sleeve options (sleeveless, normal, 3/4, and long sleeve) -- would also be cool to be able to layer T-shirts on top of each other. Steve Irwin wear (crocodile and snake bites optional) ;) And anything Egyptian! =)

Ooooo..., I'd love to throw out ideas for M3 clothes. Thanks for asking.
imho, Michael 2's Clothing Packs were too stiff and stuffy. Sure his dress shirt could unbutton, but you couldn't roll up the sleeves. His dress pants had no option to make them low hung on the hips either. He was tragically uncool. I would love to see M3 get threads with attitude. So if M2 had the Cop Pack, why not give M3 the Detective Pack? Example:
Low on the hip dress slack pants with thin belt
Gun holster on hip
Dress shirt loose around the collar with rolled up sleeves
Morphable tie that can blow around
A Badge and ID
Dress shoes
A big black watch
You like? =)
p.s.
As others have mentioned, I too would like morphable clothes to fit each of M3's body setting (Young, Tone, Thin, Muscle 1-4, Heavy, etc.)

Just wanted to add a few more thoughts on M3... I forgot to mention M3 has superior phenome morph. He's far more realistic than V2, M2, Posette and Dork. I bet when you use M3's phenomes with Mimic it will be amazing how realistic he looks. Thanks for the side by side comparsion. It really shows the differences between M2 and M3. I see M3's multi-ethnic look even clear now and M3 has no body fat. He's more toned. Here's an example of the body shape differences: Brad Pitt (m3) verses Russell Crowe (m2). Brandon Lee (m3) verses Bruce Willis (m2). The Rock (m3) verses Hulk Hogan (m2). Vin Desil (m3) verses Sean Connery (m2). A Calvin Klein model (m3) verses a Tommy Hilfiger model (m2). Genghis Khan (m3) verses a Eric the Red (m2). But that's just with the default settings. Morphs can do amazing things to transform a figure. bB

Here's my 2 cents on M3 so far: 1) Morphs Injection poses aren't as scary as I thought, and ultimately they will be a time saver for Poser users. M3 has better morphs, ethic morphs, more teeth morphs, animal/fantasy morphs, and precision morphs for the face, like 3 philtrum morphs! That makes me a happy camper. 2) Mesh His shape is different, more multi-ethnic and toned then the default M2. Maybe I'll grow on me. I can't say how good M3 poses just yet, but I expect he will do well more polygons in the joint areas. 3) Mats You can tell DAZ has taken many of the good ideas Poser users have come up with over the years and incorporated these ideas into the latest version of Mike. I really like the tonal mats. To me, the base texture map is too cool and too red, but I just click the golden "tone 2", and Wa La, M3 is not so icky looking. And the Injection Morph idea I believe was invented by users here at 'rosity too. So things you used to buy as add-ons for your Poser figure now come with product which is a money saver when you think of it. 3) The Hi-res Texture Map It's 3000 x 4000 which is not as hi res as I thought, and there many be some errors in the bump map. But I like how the new texture map allows for more exact map of a 3 dimensional object (it reminds me of the flattened orange peel version of global maps instead of the square ones). But because of this new UV map, it makes the job of texture mapping so much harder because it's so much more precise. The head map's eyebrow area is a nightmare! Anyhoo, M3 has a more realistic male texture than M2's half real, half art texture. It's almost too real! Looking at his body texture map gives me the heebee jeebee because it looks like M3 was skinned like an animal and flatten out into a rug. Eeeooow. ;p 4) Gender Mesh Poor M3, not only is he based on a girl's mesh, but he's gelded. There is a song I want to dedicate to M3, it's called "Detachable Penis." But seriously, I didn't like it at first, but I'm getting used to it. I used to get hip morph problems when turned gender on and off on M2. With this new approach, that will never happen. And it makes M3 easier to cloth. I imagine a parent could easily censor their daughter's Poser use too by pulling a Loraine Bobbit on M3's Gen.obj. LOL. ;p 5) Blank figure, and M3 to M2 figure Don't know what the blank is for, but I really like having M3's mesh adapted to M2's shape. I'm not ready to say good-bye to M2. 6) Product Support DAZ has done a great job making add on products available for M3. Overall, I consider it a good value for your money, -- a must have for Poser Users. MAC users should be aware they many have problems like I'm having. I hope they get fixed soon. bB

About the texture converter, I was truly impressed watching it go. I spend so much time on texture making. I'm very attached to the textures I made for M2. So for me, it's worth having Texture Converter even though I don't own a Windows machine. LOL. I wonder if it will work in Virtual PC? bB

Ahhhh.... My mat woes are starting to make sense now. When trying to load ElfHairLE from the character library, Poser asked for a missing texture. It didn't display the full name, it dropped the "p" in "ElfHair_Tr01BackLengths.jpg" and replaced it with a blank square symbol.
I didn't know what the problem really was, I emailed Daz Tech twice. My first reply, they said to download the Update which I had not done to fix the Mat error. But after that, I still had a Mat problem and on top of that, I now had rogue vertices like the ones on M3 pictured above. I emailed them screen captures. One day later they said they understood what the problem was, and reworked the WoodElf for the Mac including the update. I just redownloaded it. They were pretty quick, so I'm happy camper. I bought WoodElf when DAZ was running the sell on M2 products, and since they were quick to fix the problem, it must have been that they really were overwhelmed when V3 come out Patricia. I imagine there were more shoppers for V3 than M2 sale items. Maybe it's going to take me a long, long time to get a M3 fix too, since M3 Mania is in full swing right now. sigh
Ghostofmacbeth, what OS are you using? I'm running 9.2. I understand OS X is supposed to allow more characters in file names, don't know if it applies to programs too. Can you share your sloppy method for fixing the character limit? =)
As far as I know, I'm the only person I've seen who is having "vertices on crack." And it's not just DAZ purchases that I had this problem with. It's happened once before. When I loaded the wonderful SAM3D's freebie Native American canoe, I had a polygon explosion in Poser. It was truly scary. I haven't emailed SAM3D about it because I figured it would be rude to say anything. 99.9% of his creations work just fine.
So it sounds like there are 2 separate problems I'm having:
I had no idea there was a 16 character limit. Thanks so much for sharing that info, Molly. I wonder if there's a way to add another feature to Poser Maconverter 1.1.6 that will auto fix the 16 character limit problem. There are programs like "SkinShrinker" and "Namer" that auto-convert objects for The Sims on the Mac. Surely such a program is possible for Poser too. As Mac users, we should ban together and create a lot a noise so a wonderful programer in shiny armor will come to our rescue. =)

geoegress, "Easy to customize," are words I like to hear. It's customizable like how The Sims objects are, only much bigger, much better, and way easier. And you know what else I like about your set? A highly detailed quilt pattern. I have never seen a Poser bed successfully pull off a highly detailed quilt before (and an animal print too!) Yea! =) bB

OH. MY. GOD. You Rock!!!!!! I just looked at all the combinations.... and you have EXACTLY what I want, -- a 4 poser leopard print bed! I've been working on a virtual set and I've been searching for a decent bed for so long. I even I bought a bed, tried and failed to create a leopard print for it. Sadly, it was impossible to do because the comforter had a bad UV map for the comforter. I've even tried to rig Castle Dev's cool 4 poser bed freebie, but's a single, not a double, and it doesn't have a comforter, -- only sheets. I LOVE how well your beds are designed for easy texture map making. It looks like it would be so much easier than the hell I went through. And I'm loving the endless mix-and-match possibilities with bed frames and blanket styles. In fact, I'm feeling sorry for myself that I ever wasted money buying another bed, yours are clearly better. I'll be picking up your bed collection Monday. Great product. =) The only other thing I can think of that would make the Ultimate Bed Collection even better is having blanket deformers so characters can be tucked in under the sheets, pillows can have a "just slept on" indent on them, and the bed can look lived-in with an "unmade" morph. That would be awesome! =) bB

Shapewise, the Bangs are different. The PC above hair has bangs "blowing back" for a regular guy kinda style, Julien Hair is like a crazy crossover between Rock-a-billy and a Flock of Seagulls front spiking bang. ;) bB
