Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 27 5:12 pm)
Mike 3 is in the works, but there aren't any previews of him yet. If he's the kind of step up that V3 was over V2, we've really got something to look forward to. And I do hope Fousto gets a copy of Propack and starts modeling for Poser. We need more high res, many morphed figures with more variations. The problem with rekying on a single mesh is that it always has the same, well, taste of the base. The more meshes, the more realism we can have. A good male figure that could wear Mike's cloths and had lots of morphs could go for $60 and sell like hotcakes. A female one would that could wear Vicky's cloths would sell even better, although I hope someone does the male first.
I totally agree! Please, Please, Please Daz! Please be working on Mike 3! I only use Mike in all my work because I only do warrior style artwork, and I have been very afraid that ever since Daz released the male morph pack for V3 that they will put M3 on the back burner. I know many people feel that M3 isn't that important because it appears that most poser users use Vicki over Mike, but I love the Mike figure and use him everyday and so do many, many others. PLEASE DAZ, if you could just write in and tell us that he IS or will be in the works (hopefully soon) then it will put my mind and heart at rest. I don't mind waiting, because I know all your work is excellent!
I thought Mike 2 was very versatile, you can just about make him look like whomever you want. Wouldn't just a good texture map give Micheal a tougher look, with some muscle morphs? I can only imagine how many parameter dials Mike 3 will have, and I guess I will have even more trouble finding the one that will make the figure do what I want. I will have to wait and see if Mike 3 will be worth the upgrade, Mike 2 was worth it because it finally gave the abbility to create realistic body types besides the original Micheal's idealized one. I guess the problem I have is that all the clothes and props are made for a small, non-morphed Mike. There are ways to get the clothes to fit, but non of them are pleasant. I hope that when Daz Studio comes out it features clothing that will really conform; ie take on whatever morphs your figure has automatically without penetration.
Uhhh ..I dont see your point :-/ Daimler Benz is a car factory thier engineering "artists" take the time to produce a new mercedes model with the high end features their buyers demand and mass produce them for sale Daz can do the same thing with their 3d character models. its fine if you want every model you use to be a unique polygon by polygon original mesh from lightwave but good luck trying to make a real living in 3D:-/ (A. )Model one $$sell$$ many (B.)model another( mike3) $$sell$$ many....get it, greeny :-)
But isn't that EXACTLY what Fousto has done? His mesh is a unique polygon by polygon original mesh. I doubt it has morphs that'll make it into a new character. Daz3D's mesh has 1000s of morphs to vary the form so that one can virtually make the figure look like whatever they want (does Fausto's?) as well as posability, animatibility, and textures. A. One-off specific model B. Generically reformable model There ain't gonna be a cell-by-cell replica 3D model of a human form with full dynamics anytime this millenium, so you'll have to live with the crude approximations.
There ain't gonna be a cell-by-cell replica 3D model of a human form with full dynamics anytime this millenium I'm pretty sure there will be. Quite possibly even this century. It's just a question of speed and storage. COnsidering what we can do now compared to what we could do in the 60s, it could be in the nect 20 years. The question is, if you simulate chemicals and electricity running through it, will it be able to think?
_dodger: Bah! They said we'd have an AI machine in 10 years, 40 years ago. Now, they say maybe another 20 to 50 years from now (at best). The neuron turned out to be 100000 times more complex then ever imagined - storing more information than expected. Now, consider the complexity of the entire human system. It's not just a bag of cells - it's a bag of specialized, well-organized, interdepedent, symbiotic cells, each part of a larger system, part of a larger system, eventually ending in a single human being. The human body is the result (nonlinear as compared to what some like to envision) of billions of years of evolution. Put those clouds back together, turn off the light behind you, and stop pretending to be God. ;) Mike 12 will be running Linux, of course...

For all intents and purposes the Stephanie concept was absorbed into V3. My guess is that M3 will be more MOB characterbased, meaning big scary things. But like I said it is still on the board. Anton

Oh, Gods!!! So your idea of a REAL man is a jerk with big guns??? Shoulders wider than his thinking processes will ever be... because the only thought on his mind is how to stand there and take damage? May a very large dinosaur drop a shitload on him. Oh, that's right... he IS a dinosaur. Obsolete. It is a pity that a modeler of Fousto's ability is limited to stuff which is decades out of fashion, instead of being creative enough to design something new and interesting and functional. As an Evil Game Master (TM), I can think of lots of ways to kill something besides getting a bigger gun. As a human being, I can think of many ways to show manliness which don't involve killing. A decade ago at Accolade I was interviewing artists for a science fiction game. I would have turned this guy down. Imagination is far more valuable to a company than mere technical ability, and I don't see any imagination here. Carolly
Hey Rattler, you know you still have teddy bear hiding somehwere. :)

You know something? The fact that he modeled it all himself is impressive, and if he's looking for work as a modeler that's cool and I hope he gets the gig :) But I'm an artist, I get paid for pictures. Not models. So I'd need to make this guy and his six buddies in less than a week. And then do a set of at least ten shots with them running around and shooting things and drinking in a bar and whatnot. With the right clothing models, and a lot of time texturing almost anyone could make that image using Poser4 and Michael. The only thing that would be tricky is the lovely backlighting on the hair, and P5 would get that easily. I like DAZ's products because they are flexible, fast and easy to use. I can build an entire unique 'personality' in about half an hour. For my current project I'm building armies of unique background figures using various resolution version of Mike and Vickie. The fact that all the Victoria based products work evenly across Lo-resV, V1, and V2 means I can customize my mesh density for the use of the character. Even though V3 does not take V1 and v2 based products right out of the box means nothing ... with a small amount of tinkering I can use everything I have already on this flexible new figure. The fact that I can then turn the figure into a range of male characters impossible to get with Michael? added bonus. I'm looking forward to Mike3, even though I don't like great big muscular things myself, I'll be needing a few mutant bruiser types for the story ... 'Scuse me ... not sure where that rant came from :) Lyrra
I agree with you totally, Lyrra. And that's my point. A one-off model is difficult, but not nearly as difficult as pulling off a model that can be morphed, pulled, and twisted into a new character without having to remodel it or do all of the work yourself. DAZ has done a spectacular job at making character creation a reality. Considering that each V3 morph can take values from -1 to 1 (without considering values beyond those) at very small increments allows for infinite variety without infinite time. So instead of having to buy thirty different models for thirty characters, you have thirty million at your disposal from one figure. 'Scused, my Lady :) BeatYourSoul
Oh please, Carolly! Show us the model you've made of the 'correct' example of what a "real Man" is. Your guidance and superior knowledge is so sorely needed in these troubling times. (Swoon...) Speaking of dinosaurs... "Accolade"?? You mean the brilliant people who brought us the "Busby 3D", "Street Fighter the Movie" and "Test Drive" a.k.a "slot car racing" games? Last time I checked, "Blizzard Entertainment" is still filthy rich, and "Accolade" is still extinct. Maybe your hiring 'prowess' for them, wasn't as grand as you're trying to lead people to believe?
Does this guy have a site or a gallery. How did you find out about the model. Did you do those images with them? ----------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps Carolly was offended. I can see it where it is a bit over the top witht the female references. The words "she", "female" and such were all used here more as insults and describtions of weakness and inferiority. It kinda suggests women are all those things too being that women are "she's" and "females" themselves. "girly" putdowns used to do alot of people alot of damage. But I don't want to speak for Carolly. She might have been just giving a hard time out of fun crack'in on all the testosterone in the thread. :) ----------------------------------------------------------

Ha! Real Men hire guys like that to beat up other guys like that for them. Real men aren't man-ginas, they're evil genuises with aspirations of godhood and immortality and the willingness to order the mass slaughter of entire plantets when needed to keep the order! Far from sensitive, Real Men show and feel no emotions but anger at those who dare defy thet will! Err, sorry. Master Sidious' training too firmly rooted. B^)
lol This post is getting stranger and stranger.

Anton, he took the pictures from this thread at CGTalk. See page 12 for a wire frame of the mesh."Uhhh ..I dont see your point :-/ Daimler Benz is a car factory thier engineering "artists" take the time to produce a new mercedes model with the high end features their buyers demand and mass produce them for sale Daz can do the same thing with their 3d character models. its fine if you want every model you use to be a unique polygon by polygon original mesh from lightwave but good luck trying to make a real living in 3D:-/ (A. )Model one $$sell$$ many (B.)model another( mike3) $$sell$$ many....get it, greeny :-)"* Yeah I get it wolfie.......its all about money....its all about sales.....yeah I get it......
If you mean the figure at the top of the page, not the one Wolf just posted, that was done in 3DSMax. Follow the links to the other forum, and the fact that page 12 shows pics of the mesh proves this because they are MAX screenshots with the viewport marked on them in yellow, in edged faces smooth+highlights mode.
enough with the name calling guys ... Carolly is an amazing pro artist, worked with many great companies. Not her fault if the pointy haired bosses drove them to extinction. The whole make it yourself bit is a) old and B)pointless I don't have time to build a whole figure from scratch. I'd rather pay the lovely people over at DAZ so I can use theirs. That way if something goes wrong I can get someone else to fix it :) The model above is gorgeous ... but even if he released it I'd have to spend huge amounts of time making it usable for me as an artist. Time is money, and I don't have enough of either. Lyrra
