Well, I can only speak for myself, but like you I do spend an a**load of money on poser stuff. I guess I have had better luck than you. For I haven't had 1/5 the problems you have. But i still see your point. I always send the item i intend to sell to some ppl for the express purpose of checking out for missing textures. and model stability, including mac platforms, even tho in the store they are listee as PC only. they, my valiant testers are very quick to point out the boo-Boos and i fix em before shipping to the store. i assumed that other modeler do that. and i suppose they do. I'm not going to point fingers, or blame others. or attempt to excuse what has happened to you and your purchases, (Even tho you haven't bought from me). But as a part-time vendor, i wanted to at least tell you that your point is taken and understood by me. Alverson
Glad I'm not the only one complaining now. Last time I complained about stuff missing or not working I got slammed. I also cannot get the mats for the carousel to work, and although you can load them manually, it still is a pain that they don't work, since for me that was part of the draw to buy them, the fact that it makes it easier to use the mats. What's weird is my other mats work fine....go figure. Marque
Hairy Sasquatch .. this is what I see on the Daz site about the nighclub stuff "A new set of high resolution, quality textures to give Victorias Clothing Pak 1 a more glamorous look, ideal for those special nights out. All items have individual cr2's assigned so there's no need to apply the textures & trans maps manually, so Vicky never need be late! Requires the previous purchase of the Victoria's Clothing Pak 1 " Pretty explanitory and clear from what I can see. And when I saw the pack the first time it was there. Sorry about he confusion. But I am not sure bout the other stuff. Just happened to be shopping when I read this post and all.
I purchased the Item and thought it was new clothes I did not think it was a texture because the item did not show pictures of the transmaps clothes before and after. So yeah I think If I combed the small print I would have found this little statment your showing me. But I think making it clear with pictures would be even better and more upfrount. But that's ok, I know now and will read the small print for now on, Im not unhappy with the textures and transmaps I purchased, I would be happyer if they were models.
I have been happy with the items I have purchased, aside from a few delays, the stuff works and I feel my new supply of items gives me a lot of flexibility in my work. I can see that it is frustrating, I get frustrated too, but I also am happy when I get my stuff and it works. I think people have to be careful when they shop, like anything else marketing is such that they want you to buy buy buy... Most of the artists here are very responsive and many have their items set up at DAZ also. I do think that given the delays due to glitches that the vendors need to maintain contact with the customers, that means checking up on things over the weekend. One of the reasons I can think of is that many people buy and want to use the stuff on the weekends before they go to work in order to earn more money to spend on things....
Heya nitreug, due to it having been the week of Siggraph, a couple of things got overlooked by Daz on release of the sports pack. I had mapped the sports equipment according to 3d industry standards (not Poser standard, but real industry standard) mapping standards, and Daz did not notice this. As I said, they were at Siggraph, and things were hectic. By the method I had chosen, the textures worked without needing templates to paint inside lines like a child's coloring book. That is a far superior method in my opinion to what they have now, which is done to the old coloring book layout Poser users are used to. Be that as it may, one way or another, within less than a week of release, the change had been made to the sort of all laid out on one wasteful template method had been accomplished by me after it was requested, and it had been posted. I am sorry you were inconvenienced.
uh, has some one pointed out that Daz has a money back guarantee? If you're not happy... let them know. Also... has anybody tried my Daz brokered products yet? I know that a handful of folks did buy the Ogre Textures I made... but I havent seen anyone use them yet. Doug
I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.
On the original Sports Pack before I sent in a new set of newly mapped props with new all on one sheet uv mapping as requested by Daz, you could for instance load up ANY nice wood texture you had to the area labeled Wood, or in fact any nice texture at all. Perhaps Fur ;p or even Zebra Stripes ;) And it all would have worked, so long as the texture was a nice fat good quality one in a square or a rectangle. The ONLY prop that had a specific need of any texture really laying in a certain way was the backboard. Now unfortunately, it is all "correctly" mapped to Poser standards. These are not unfortunately industry standards. So you will now need to take your pretty Zebra Stripes and flood fill the correct area of the new "template" and anything outside that correct area will not be applied. It is a shame really. Poser mapping is wasteful, and it does not teach you guys anything about industry standard UV mapping or texturing methods... for your future where some of you may wish to work in this industry professionally.
DAZ is always very clear when you need a previously purchased package to use something. This morning, I saw the Night Club styles Sasquatch is talking about, and upon reading the text on the page, I knew immediately that it was a texture set for the clothing pack. As Ghostofmacbeth said above, it clearly states that this is a high resolution texture set and that the Victoria Clothing Pack is required. Melanie
Folks who have broken mat files are getting mat files made by us folks who did not develop our work in Pro Pack. I too had this problem with my UltraSalon Hair. The fix for this is fairly simple. I am going to cut and paste the solution here, for those who are having this problem. It is a small section of the MAT file from one of my UltraSalone MATS, both before the fix, and after the fix, so that you can see how to fix it. The solution is in the 0 0 line, we have been leaving it out, but without Pro Pack, we did not know of this, and the answer has only recently been discovered. For example: !NoMess.pz2 Your File!!! { version { number 3.0 { } } figure { material Chignon { NsExponent 40.4078 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 transparencyMap ":Runtime:textures:UltraSalonTextures:PrincessHairTrans.jpg" ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 } (snip) !NoMess.pz2 My File!!! { version { number 3.0 { } } figure { material Chignon { NsExponent 40.4078 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 transparencyMap ":Runtime:textures:UltraSalonTextures:PrincessHairTrans.jpg" 0 0 This line must be inserted. ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 } (snip) After the Mappath a 0 0 must be inserted. That is unfortunately very often missing. Now it goes with the ProPack. I hope it will help you.
Sturkwurk: My point is not to get my money back but it is about quality. What I have mentionned in my first post happen in the last 10 days only. I am not referencing a six months period but 10 days and see all items that does not work in both stores only. Every week I buy for more than $100 so that means $5000/year so I can expect some kind of quality. AS you may know, you buy something and you put them on CD to free some space and after you receive patches/updates/new features and put them back to another CD and after a few years you have like me about 50 CDs with a bunch of files/patches/updates/new features and cannot figure out which one will go first when I need to reinstall.
Melanie: When you read the information about the following item about the barbarian hero from gregc, can you tell me if you expect to have the DAZ3D Custume CD in order to make it work: http://www.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=1796 The artist told me that: Those files are part of the objects included in DAZ/Zygote's "Costume CD", as mentioned in the onliune ad and the readme file included in the Barbarian Hero zip file. As specified, you will need to get this CD and install these objects in order for the figure to work properly. This CD is listed as "Costume Shop CD" Code: ps_cd006 Price: $49.95. While this is not cheap, the props and objects it offers you will pay for themselves over and over in many projects. I hope that helps. (Sent 8/25 21:38) ----- It is not mentionned online at all and when it is mention on a readme file then it is too late because each of us already bought the item. Claude
Mehndi, That "industry standard" you are talking about is UNFORTUNATELY the cause of a lot of hideously ugly flat textures being squashed and stretched over curved surfaces. I've been in this industry since 1987... and I greatly prefer mapping on a flat projection: it is the one sure way of getting detail in the exact place desired without distortion. Carolly
For certain things you are correct Carolly, in that planer mapping is desirable. But only some things ;) Other things, such as a cube mapped to planer mapping will only show the front and back with a nice map. The sides and top and bottom will be all "smeared". In the case of my maps, when I say industry standard, I mean each area has had the best available UV coordinates applied to it that produces the best result from applying a texture map, in 3d Studio Max, before it was ever exported. All texture maps are "flat" Carolly, they are ALL 2 dimensional. How they actually lay though, is a result of using the correct UV mapping coordinates. It is NEVER necessary to then lay a bunch of these onto one sheet so that you then have to select that area, and paint in it, or flood fill in it with your photograph or other texture, just to get a decent mapping job done. That is merely wasteful, produces maps that are not reusable on any other model save the one created for, and is non-industry standard.
Gee the guy who posted this topic posted about something other then DAZ, I even slightly mention a product, I was a little dispointed by, And get corrected 3 times for missing the product statment, That incidently does not fully explain what the zipfile contains. Yet I was corrected here 3 times when the person who posted this topic was talking about something other then Daz.
As to this thread. I agree. I've purchased a couple of items that I felt later were not as good as advertised. And then I've bought some that were outrageously better than I'd thought, like the Total Hair package! And Daio's Raven figure for Michael! And Sydd's Gabriel! I read fine print thoroughly before purchasing anything. And I'm a vender too over at 3DCommune. I have texture sets for the default P4 Fem Leotard. They were tested by two people over there for about a week before they went up in the store. I'd made many tests on my own. I hardly do any real picture rendering because I'm so busy testing out textures I've made for something niffty that I've downloaded or that I hope to eventually sell in one of the stores. If I could figure out how to get links set up with the new server I have for my downloads pages, I'd have stuff back up in the Freestuff (sigh...I'll figure it out eventually.) Nitreug: I hear your point loud and clear... but if you let the vendor know you're unhappy with their product directly... you may have helped solve the problem. If half the people who buy a product complain about it... I would hope that the vendor would look into the problem. Buying a ton of products, archiving them, and then complaining about them later dosent make much sense to me... every time I buy a poser file, I load it up... render a shot or two for test and move on. I would think that you would be one of their favorite customers (since you spend that much every week) and they might want to keep you happy. I personlly bought the cr2 editor from Daz a few months ago (when it came out) and didnt care for it... I called Daz and got a prompt refund. (of course... they still have it for sale too) Doug
I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.
Ther is the old saying "buyer beware". I think we have to keep in mind that many of the products available are created by amatures. If you not sure about a product be careful when buying email the vendor about the details, ask questions. Buy from recocognized names. Also if you have a problem with a product contact the vendor to try and solve the problem. (I have been very happy with customer service, most people want to help). As consumers it's our responsibility to inform people about the good and bad products, place comments about your satisfaction in the comment arias on the product pages. Vendors try to explain all about the product your selling in the describtion if it's only trans maps and textures explain that, also try to beta test the product with 2-3 people with different systems. (I have had the best luck with the vendors who do this, you may still run into problems but you'll figure out how to solve them this way.) I'm not trying to defend anyone, but e-comerce is new here and with anything new there are hurdles to cross. Overall I've been happy with the extras I've been able to get for poser.
I try to buy from people who are not recognized just to help them get started. If I own a store and I take products on commission, it is not the person whose product is for sale that people are upset with if there is a problem...it is my store that gets the bad rep. Therefore I would make sure that the products are of good quality by checking them out before I sell them. Renderosity, Daz, Bbay, and 3DCommune are all respected names in this community, but if they continue to carry substandard products they will learn that loyalty will not carry them. I too buy a ton of products in all the stores, and I have for the most part been very happy with what I've bought. Most of the vendors are quick to take care of any problems that crop up. It just seems that there would be more QA done before the products are released. The new vendors need to understand this and not get in a hurry to release the product, as they will get a bad name. Marque
Sturkwurk: I did brought that to the vendors all the time before to come and post this message but look at the answers i received: From gregc: If you have a problem with your purchase, then I suggest that you take the matter up with the store staff. But, I WILL NOT VIOLATE COPYRIGHT LAW UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The text of your complaint and my replies to it will be forwarded to the staff. (Sent 8/25 22:06) SO I sent it to jeffh and here is the answer: Send a note about this to store@renderosity.com Subject: ATT - Yvette. She will be able to help you. -Jeff (Sent 8/25 22:44) and after I sent a note to Yvette but this is the week end and may not receive an answer before next week. Last time when I was not satisfied with some hair i never got an answer. Here another answer, this one from DAZ3D on 8/21/01: I did some checking and there seems to not be a texture template set for this because the artist didn't include UV coordinates so we are having the artist redo the obj's and then we will be able to have an update. I am flagging your email so I will remember to send you the update as soon as it is available. Thanks, Betsy Schow betsy@daz3d.com No answer yet since then.
Otaku: Leaving comments on one product will not work because the vendors will only leave the positive comments. Look at this note that appears on top of the comment box: This form is for buyers who have used this product and want to communicate to the merchant. Please feel free to leave your comments. The merchant will receive an email notification when you have posted your comments. These comments will not become public until the merchant approves them. So the last sentence said that the comment will not become public until the merchant approves them. SO it will be impossible to have a negative comment be public.
Mehndi- I'm not going to touch most of this thread with a 10' pole, but I wanted to mention the MAT poses I do, which are done the way most people (I suspect, anyway) do them, by cutting the materials out of a CR2 do have the 0 0, actully they seem to have 0 0, but I don't think Poser cares about Tabs! I'm using 4.0.3.126 (or maybe 127?) on a PC.
Mapping every surface individually is no longer industry standard btw. The majority of mapping for games and film work are UV-mapped in a spread out manner, all on one sheet for all the surfaces of the model. Sometimes in two sheets to maintain 256x256 texture map sizes in games. This allows the most accurate application of details that are sized properly using the fewest amount of texture files. Esp. important in games where texture memory is in short supply. Its also important for 3D Paint programs to function properly where you are painting across the model as if it were a minature. Most film companies have moved to that sort of texturing system. If you look at the articles on Final Fantasy the Movie that show screens of the textures used, you will see that they indeed do that. The main reason mapping individually for every surface was the standard before was because UV mapping was in its infancy. Not many people understood how to do it properly, and that's still the case overall. Companies all over are looking for compentant UV mappers lately.

Remember both Daz and the other stores are here to make money. Many of th"testing requirements " of the models are not what you think. Basically the testers are required to make sure all the parts are there and that the zips are packaged appropiately and that they function in poser. The quality of the object depends on the creator. I admit I have been posting more to the store than in the freebies but i do this to compensate for the software costs and time spent on developing models. I attempt to give away models i have created in the freebies in order to show people samples of what I have made. Renderosity takes it very serious when there are artist and modelers misleading other members of this community to purchase substandrd items. On your list I noticed that most of yer complaints were about DAZ, I would also like to note that DAZ is more expensive on the norm, and the complaint should be issued to them. If you have questions of any artists work, ask them, many of us would be glad to answer any questions you have about their work before you purchase it. If the don't then don't buy their stuff.aka MCDLabs

Yes, however, people without Poser can buy the models and rig them in whatever program they use. So Poser models are not really exclusive only to Poser. And OBJ is an OBJ and almost any program out there can translate that format. A lot more work goes into some "Poser models" than models that cost 20 times more sold in other venues.
yes very true for example the gun i am just now putting up as a freebie, it took over 10 hours of work to complete including modeling and texturing. Normally it would be a sale item selling for about $8.00, but because I'm in a generous mood Ill be making it a freebie for a short period of time. This si so people can get more exposure to the quality of work I do, and hopefully draw more customers to purchase other items of my work.

I have been, for the most part, very happy with the things I buy. I buy ALOT! My only complaint is that sometimes, the models need way too much tweaking. The instructions will tell you...you must load this to get that or some convoluted way to make the model work. I personally don't buy those models when they specify all that stuff in the description. I normally email people before I buy something anyway, to see how easy it is to use. I won't buy things that need objaction mover, for example...just my own personal thing...but that's not the only reason I won't buy something. I want the models/morphs/textures, whatever to be easy to load, easy to use...that's all I ask! LOL! Likie i said though, I email and ask before I buy most of the time...which is why I am not often disappointed.

This thread was just way to long to read so i'm answering the initial post reguarding my product Mega Mike. First off. I'm sorry about the problem with the Windows version. I have no controll over that part of their business and that is a matter to be taken up with them. It's a simple mistake that can be easily fixed. Again with something beyone my controll. The Demon Horns template is most likely poor checking of links. A mistake most of us have made. I know them being a business it makes it something to get upset over but people make mistakes. As far a items being validated. All the proper files including the template were sent to them. I wish I could give you a better answer but I just found out about the problems last night. For now you can get the template from the link above. GeorgeDas regarding the feedback feature here in the marketplace: i think most vendors won't post a negative comment. that's just bad business! would nike put a commercial on t.v. showing people complaining about the blisters they get from a nike product? no. would any company purposely sabotage their own products in such a manner? of course not. i think most vendors, when they get a negative comment, will strive to fix the problem. then there's no longer a problem, see? i personally have 1 comment not made public...it was done by someone who had bought from me and another vendor on the same day, and accidentally "cross" posted their opinion :) hehehe... it baffled me for a minute, so i contacted them, and sorted it out. she kindly reposted her comments, and i promptly made it public :) however, the feedback option is an excellent feature, because it does give people a chance to give their product-related opinions....good and bad. peace! Styxx
Styxx: Sorry but I am French but your comment does not make too much sense to me. You mentionned that a bad comment will not go public but in your last sentence you said that people can give their opinions good or bad but if it is bad only the vendor will see it. This is why people do not post too much comment there. i was putting some but now no more as only good comments are public.
My apologies for the late posting here. I do want to speak to a couple posts. First nitrueg - I think we have the barbarian issue resolved and you should have received my email yesterday. In this case, the item was older, before the testing guidelines were established and the item requirement was missed but is now included. Thanks to your contacting us we were able to put that in and hopefully help future customers. On Jose Cortez that vendor was on vacation but has now posted an updated version. I have reset your downloads on this product and you can re download. We (Renderosity Admin & Testers) do make every attempt to ensure the product functions correctly and is represented accurately. However, being subject to human error, I am sure we will miss things. That's why we depend on our customers to contact either the store@renderosity.com or the individual artist. Most artists take customer feedback very seriously and work almost franticly to get it corrected. If you do not receive the response from them you feel is appopriate then please email the store and let us know. As for working on the weekends, we do keep an eye on the emails that come through but are usually on here and there. Personally I check the store and emails in the mornings and then go about enjoying the weekend. that might be an area we need to look at more closely. However, with limited budget and staff, its difficult. We have received a lot of feedback from everyone about The MarketPlace and how it can be improved through the survey and various forum threads. We are looking at that information and trying to figure out if and how it can be implemented. The MarketPlace is barely one year old and we are continuing to learn, change and grow to make The MarketPlace second to none!! yvette renderosity admin
what i meant about leaving both good and bad comments is simply this: good comments should be made public. bad comments should not - not one single company would disagree with me. bad comments should be treated only as an indication that there is an issue to be looked at and dealt with. if more people would contact the vendor directly when there is a problem (and i'm not speaking of anyone in particular here, just generalizing), instead of in a public forum, there would be no reason to leave a bad comment.

The store here and at DAZ3D get a lot of items those days. I believe more than in freestuff. However the quality is definitely not there. In Both places they advertize that they will check the items before releasing them. IT IS NOT TRUE AT ALL. SO MUCH REWORK BY THE DIFFERENT ARTISTS. DAZ3D sport pack: Missing texture template and DAZ3D wait for the artist to produce it. DAZ3D Mega Mike: The windows version point to sit file which even with alladin suppender cannot execute it. DAZ3D: Mega Mike Horns: The template does not exist at all. Renderosity: Barbarian Hero require DAZ3D CD Costume and nothing in the web page say something about it. Renderosity: Jose Cortes has errors and after sending e-mails to the artist and in this site I did not get an answer yet. DAZ3D: Carousel: I do not what to do with it but I am unable to apply the poses/textures files to the carousel and to the horses. AND MANY OTHER ITEMS THAT I BOUGHT I RECEIVE E-MAILS FOR UPDATES. THE QUALITY IS NOT THERE!!!!!! STORES DO YOUR JOB!!!!! ARTISTS GET YOUR ITEMS VALIDATED BEFORE SELLIN THEM!!!!!! THE QUALITY IS DEFINITELY NOT THERE.
