Hey EBob! Guess who finally rejoined ;P-> camelot:
You may find that Morph Manager 4 can't handle some of the newer character files, since it is no longer in development. If/when you run into this, you may want to try CR2Builder, which is updated regularly, the latest being in February of this year. Follow the link provided, and select version 02k.

Mason, glad to find out that I was wrong about that :) Before MorphManager came along, I was forced to use EditPad, which is a very good text editor, but hand editing 5-8mb text files isn't fun no matter what.

Welcome to the world of being able to REALLY use Poser 5 :-) As long as you've got enough power under the hood, it sure can sing.

If you're on OSX, you should get Wings3D, which can create 3d text, and plays very well with Poser (it even has a way to scale objects down on export to fit Poser better). Then just export as obj, since this format is supported much better by Poser.Thread: a reccurent noob question about Morph Manager | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
CR2Builder allows you to drag-n-drop whole sets of dials at once, and they stay in order. The only thing you have to fix afterwards is the one dial that gets misplaced on the target figure, but this is trivial compared to the alternative. http://www.globetown.net/~kim99/tool/index_e.html version 02k00 is the most recent. It's a bit more involved than Morph Manager, but can do a few things that Morph Manager cannot, such as load enormous CR2s without crashing or slowing your system to a crawl. There are several members here who have been using it for awhile, so feel free to post any questions you may have.
Thread: Stephanie (original version) morphs? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm seriously considering buying Steph LoRes, so it would be nice to be able to just get the textures as a separate download. I like the challenge of tweaking morphs/JPs on the low res figures, so I won't need the morphs (although they do look awesome).

The shadow problem is possibly due to a corrupt light file. Poser enjoys creating these so you'll have to trick it into not doing so by adding as many new lights to your scene as the light file you're applying has (ie: say your light file has 10 lights, you need to have 13 lights in the scene BEFORE you double-click the library thumbnail). As for the texturemap complexity, I agree with what was said above: you should create lower-resolution versions when possible. Unless you're doing close-ups, you'll see no (positive) difference in renders. Too bad Poser doesn't do LOD...

No, it's probably a result of not enough antialiasing. The specularity is used in such a way that it tends to do that, since it's being multiplied through the texture. I'm working on a tutorial for this hair effect, as well as one for a weird new way to use Firefly shaders.

Thread: Will Poser or D|S users ever benefit from GI Lighting? Doubt it. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Used exactly as in Stewer's tutorial, the probelight node won't work (properly) with lights. However, if you plug it into the reflection input, and check "multiply through lights", it can be combined with strategic light setups to produce nice results while still allowing for shadows. Back to the original subject, I would rather see actual GI within Poser, or else direct render plugins. YafRay, KRay, and Virtualight are three excellent candidates for plugin writers to look at. Even if eFrontier decided to sell just the Shade renderer as an add-on for Poser 6, that would be cool, though it would be nice if it were included.
