I find that, having given permission for the install to run on Avast, it does indeed not install. However I then start the install process again, and that time it runs. Most annoying, but I do get things to work, eventually.

Once again I reiterate. If you get a virus warning from a non DAZ piece of content would you pause your anitV to install it? Then why do it for DAZ content?
And once again I say to you the same as as I said before. I visited the Avast Forum, and found a lot of people were having this problem, and it only happened after we received an actual Update of the program itself, rather than the regular virus definitions updates. And It is happening to other than Daz installers, which I also mentioned before including flagging up my old version of MS office as a suspicious program. a version which has been installed and running on this computer since I bought it.
If you follow through on the install it does not tell you that it is a virus, merely that it cannot indentify it, and it offers you the chance to install it anyway if you wait a wee while, till that bit comes up.
It is indeed something to do with the Heuristic algorithms that Avast is now using, which are set to "Paranoid" mode as someone else has mentioned. Heuristics do not guarantee that an optimal solution is ever found.
If you Really want to investigate how paranoid Avast has become nowadays, ask BobbyStahr how many times I have asked him about what turned out to be false positives whilst searching Renderository freestuff.

My PC Files unfortunately are still .exe's 8("
At the moment, yes only the Mac files are showing as zips. It is not a small job converting in excess of 14,000 products to zips, and at the moement there are other priorities.

"To use Studio you need a valid serial and to get that you need to be registered at DAZ."
Nope, not any longer. THere is a direct download link to DS4 pro, and the serial number is in the readme which is included in the zip file.

As has been said the Poser forum has been there since they first put the New forum up on line as read only.
The only difference is that in the New Forum the App specific forums are now displayed alphsbetically.

Stanley if it is not open for discussion, how come I can distinctly remember the discussion, and my answer to you. Has your memory slipped that much.

Actually Stan, I told you and others, on the Daz3D site, that AV apps were throwing up false positives as regards some Daz installers, so I don't know how you can say it is not discussed over there.
I also told you that this has been discussed on at least one of the AV suppliers forums, and it was agreed there that the latest upgrades of AV software were more prone to throwing up these false positives.
In fact there even a couple of fixes annotated, to help people get round the problem.

@ poisinivy
I am not at all certain that anyone over here will be interested in your post, but just in case they are please don't forget to mention the reason the thread you talk about was locked.
It was not locked because of the main discussion, which had been allowed to continue, and was doing so in a very disciplined manner until someone decided to deliberately stir with posts that were designed to cause the argument that erupted.
No posts of yours were removed from that thread.
Those who wanted to disrupt the thread would not refrain from posting when asked, and so spoilt the discussion for everyone.

Thread: Free DAZ Software | Forum: Bryce
Sorry to be so late pulling into this discussion
As regards the reasoning behind the free offer from SAZ3S, here is the Official response from DAZ_BHowell, DAZ_Product Mangement.
"Our reasoning in making the suite available for free is simple; increase the number of people using our software and broaden the base of potential customers and content creators. "
And BTW, anyone who is taking advantage of this free offer and who finds that the download is lacking a suffix should just right click to add .exe to the downloaded file. Our servers have been so hammered with the number of people taking advantage of the free software that DAZ3D has had to farm some downloads out to other servers, and these downloads seem to be missing the .exe suffix.

Thread: Not sure where I should post this, virus detected in a freestuff item | Forum: Freestuff
Thanks so much brynna & Jumpstartme2
I am sorry If I posted in the wrong place, just needed to get the info to someone ASAP.
I could yank the link in our Forum at DAZ3D, and hope that no one else had DLed it, and post a warning to the thread, just in case. But here, I wasn't quite certain what the procedure is, as just lately I am a lurker, rather than an active participant, mostly.
It was just a shame that it was one of our CVs who got caught, because he wanted to help the guy who had posted the link, asking for help.
I did PM Bobby as well, because I had a feeling he had something to do with the freestuff.
