I hate to sound like a broken record, but STOP using IE! Get either Netscape Mozilla Firefox or Opera They may have a few bugs every so often, but those get fixed ASAP - unlike IE. Also, make sure you DON'T do ANY e-commerce on your wife's computer; CoolWebSearch has been found to be a MASSIVE keylogger/identity-theft tool. Consider any information typed on that computer to be public domain now.
Thread: How old are you? (Mostly OT) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I had to respond to this thread, due to the fact that I just noticed that I am, in fact... wait for it... Dirty tree and a turd hehe (ok, technically, it's 'dirty tree and tree monks', but that's not quite as funny)
Thread: Reflection map previews in Poser 6 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I get no reflection map previews with SreeD either. OTOH, I do get transparency previews in SreeD (which is noticably different from the oGL preview, so I know it is SreeD), so I won't complain too loudly.
Thread: Poser 6 Mac demo already expired? Wha? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Either make your demo
(A) time-limited
or
(B) save-disabled
but NEVER both. If you're THAT freakin paranoid that someone's going to make the next LOTR using only the Poser demo and James, then you need to retire from the software biz and buy a tinfoil hat. The only other notable program I've seen do this is FormZ, which has one of the most unintuitive UIs I've ever witnessed (It makes Blender look simple in comparison). Obviously, Poser has a much better UI than FormZ (and I actually do like Blender quite a bit, but its UI is not my favorite part about it), but some do find it a bit daunting. Demo software that is time-limited AND save-disabled DOES NOT encourage anyone to buy the actual program.

Thread: Can anyone suggest an affordable 2D program to use with Poser 6? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Adobe Elements fits the price limit given. True, except that the Elements version is quite cut down, and for the same price as PSP, which has 90% of Photoshop's features. Don't get me wrong, Photoshop Elements has its uses, but given the choice between: 30%-45% of Photoshop for $90 or 75%-90% of Photoshop for $90 it's fairly obvious which one to get. Aside from which, any decent scanner comes with Photoshop Elements for free, so why not have your cake and a slice of pie :)

Thread: What are your Pet Hates about Poser/Poser products? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I would like the rooms to be able to be selected from the menu. As it is, you can access the Material room from anywhere with render:materials/CTRL+U, but that's it.I have a rather nice UI setup now, which hides the tabs when in the Pose room. I have to click a UI dot every time I open Poser or load/create a scene, but it's wonderful to not worry about accidentally switching to another room just because I click a few pixels off from where I thought I was. The light system is my biggest pet peeve. it is truly the WORST I have ever seen in any program. Main items that suck: (1) Adding a new light creates a spotlight. I rarely use spotlights. This might not be such a big problem, but... (2) ...newly added lights are NAMED INCONSISTENTLY, and... (3) ...even worse, some of the standard light parameters are NAMED INCONSISTENTLY, making it impossible to copy/paste info at times. (4) Point lights should be able to cast shadow maps. This has been possible in several 3d applications for several years, so it is neither impossible nor difficult to do. (5) If you have 3 lights in the scene, and load a light set with four, the fourth light doesn't get a shadowcam, thus making it impossible to cast shadowmaps. (6) I agree with everyone else who raised an issue with the lights. It's time to scrap the current system entirely (for Poser 7). One thing I think gets kind of neglected in these threads, and possibly makes CL/eF get defensive, is that we do love Poser. If we didn't care, we wouldn't bring up such issues. We'd just stop using Poser and go elsewhere. However, CL/eF really needs to address these major issues, such as the undo and the lights, which have been a thorn in our side for way too long, in Poser 7. They have stated (unless I'm mistaken) that Poser 7 will be a complete rewrite, so it will be the most crucial update to Poser since version 3.
Thread: "Terai Yuki" figure/character soon at CP | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It looks like they aren't going to sell them to western customers. Instead, we'll have to settle for a sumo in a Sailor Moon outfit. Discrimination pure and simple. OK, actually I have no idea. :P The best we can do is keep an eye on the CP main page.

She's a completely original figure, modeled by Hondara in Maya, as are the other two. He's quite talented.
Thread: PILES OF DEBRI /TRASH FOR POSER??????? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If you need a custom rubbish pile (for example, to have trash on top of custom props), might I suggest downloading Blender, creating a few simple boxes and cylinders, and then using physics to drop them on the imported objects. Costs absolutely nothing, it's fun, and you learn something :D
Thread: Weird P6 render anomaly | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
There's nothing wrong wth number 9. I can get Poser to do something similar to the ground plane by using auto render settings and setting it to the second notch that uses raytracing. Could you post a screengrab of your render settings? Also, it may be the properties of the squares, or their shader settings, so you might want to post screengrabs of those as well.
Thread: Materials Vs MAT Pose files | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
MAT poses are better than Poser 5's material files, for reasons stated above. Poser 6's material collections are better than MAT poses. MAT poses are a hack I discovered with Poser 3. They were never fully implemented in Poser until Poser 6, but they did an excellent job once they did. Now if only they'll fulfill the ultimate Poser power user wish: Allow the creation of a new library type (named by user), which would then prompt for a new file extension to associate with this library. Then the user would choose which types of data could be saved in this new file type (choosing from anything that is available in the PZ3 format).

Thread: Transferring Poser stills to QTVR? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Another option is to wait until the next time 3DWorld or one of the other CG magazines has the Cinema 4D 6 CE on the cover disc. It can render out both QTVR scenes and objects.
