Subject: PoserPro Serial number

iwbasl ( ) posted Wed, 18 December 2013 at 3:34 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 9:38 PM

I just purchased Poser Pro 2014 Sidegrade Physical  but the included serial number

doesn't work.  ive followed all the ways to enter it,  zero not owe, hyphan- next to zero.

ive sent 10 emails to Smithmicro requesting a working password.  they say the password that i have and sent to them is valid   but it doesn't work, plain and simple.

i don't think we are protecting Ft Knox here and ive worked hard to pay for this product.

i remember having trouble with poser 6 or 7

im about to ship it back to them dispite the fact that  i am a hardcore poser user.

what a shame that tech support can't get me through what should be a simple login

PhilC ( ) posted Wed, 18 December 2013 at 3:43 PM

Is "Not required" written in the "Previous serial number" field?

I do not recall having to type in the hyphen.

iwbasl ( ) posted Wed, 18 December 2013 at 3:46 PM

ive tried it with and with out hypans

mylemonblue ( ) posted Wed, 18 December 2013 at 4:11 PM

I may not be the biggest help in the world but I've found that copying & pasting it from a note pad often doesn't work. So if your method involved any copy & pasting at all then that could also be an issue as well.

I've always gotten it electronically, and have pasted the serial from the email into the box, so copy it from the support email you sent (since they said it was OK) and paste it into the box and it should work.

It should be of the form

XXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

All Capital letters and with zeros, no 'O's...

PS:  make sure you don't paste in any leading or following spaces.

PPS when you get it installed, install the latest service release; noting you will need your serial number to download it...

thanks for trying to help  but ive entered this password  twenty different ways including copy and paste from the email that they say is valid and typing it in with just the shift key on caps.

Smithmicro suggest updating my Windows 7, which is rediculous, and then closed the incident with some legalities of saving the email.

they are more concerned about protecting Ft Knox than getting my copy of Poser that i payed alot of money for to work.

i give up too, and am going to send it back and contact my credit card company.

what a shame, ive been looking forward to a 64 bit version for 2 years.

Quote - Smithmicro suggest updating my Windows 7, which is rediculous, and then closed the incident with some legalities of saving the email.

Actually, it's not as silly as it sounds; there is a serious issue with Poser and Internet Explorer 11, which was part of a recent Windows update; it could be related to that.  The Poser update should fix that issue.

Before you send it back, try entering your serial number into the Poser update page and see if it works.  If it doesn't, there is obviously a problem with the number.  If it does work, download and install the update and then try starting Poser and entering the number after the update completes...

Windows 7 updates it's self probably twice a week and i have all the latest service packs.

the point is should it be that hard to login in to your software?

are we protecting Ft Knox?

Did they offer to send me a new copy or give me a work around or someting?

excuse my anger but i have looked forward to PPro 64 bit for a long time.

I give up.

i will stick to Poser 7

Tunesy ( ) posted Wed, 18 December 2013 at 4:59 PM

I don't remember if it's an issue with Poser, but sometimes when I copy and paste serials for software it throws in a space at the end of the serial and if I don't manually delete that space then the activation will fail.  It's annoying because it's hard to tell if that's the problem at a glance, especially if the pasted serial is represented by all *'s.

iwbasl ( ) posted Wed, 18 December 2013 at 5:08 PM

i paid alot of money for their product, why then intentionally make it difficult to login.

maybe if enough people have troube, and they do, then Smithmicro might take their

customers seriously.

I'll make one comment It may help, you do have all the latest updates, WHICH may be the problem, IE 11 which windows will auto update too unless you told it otherwise causes a HUGE issue w/ poser mainly due to SMArtSkinUIReleaseDLLx64.dll or 86 if your 32bit, go to uninstall windows features and remove IE 11 see if that helps if not they screwed up and do what you need to do

mylemonblue ( ) posted Wed, 18 December 2013 at 5:42 PM

I agree with Blarghd. Internet Explorer 11 will prevent Poser from working. Another thing comes to mind. The serial numbers are cAsE SeNsiTiVe. I normally enter them all in capitals.

Nah, we believe you. I know it's extremely frustrating when you are doing all the right things and still a thing isn't working like it should. It's most likely that a SM tech support agent may have to issue you another serial number or something. That has happened to me once on another companies product. There is also possiblity there is an issue that the tech might have to log into your PC with something like "LogMeInRescue" in order to resolve it. I've done that for a living for a few years. Sometimes it's just a weird thing on the computer you normally wouldn't expect. In the meantime a lot of people here will simply throw out anything they've encountered in this situation in order to assist as best they can. We all love to help. All the best mylemonblue

Well, I'm not saying it's YOUR fault, just that's something's not right at YOUR end. The alternative is to believe that for some reason SM's singled you out to  F&$K with by "intentionally" giving you a serial number that doesn't work.

When to the post office made a officail report .
Called Reallusions thay said they would email me the app's.
So they emailed me and said here is the app's.
but there where no zips, exe nothing.
So I emailed them back and asked where .
So they email me back and again they said here's ya app's and again no zip,exe nothing.

FXRealms took for ever to get the plug.
Then when I got a new PC they never sent me a new Serail#

Needless to say I have no use for them.

Hope you at least get ya $$$ Back.

So?
You entered your old (previous) Serial number AND you entered your new serial number corectly?

Just asking.

(and YES) attention to the blanks before and after the serial numbers.

If your serial number works on their test scenario, you should troubleshoot on your side.

Iwbsl,

I had the same issue. Some others here touched on the fix. You need to install Poser Pro 2014 THAN install the latest update. After that, you will be able to enter the serial number. It is an issue with IE 11 and Windows. I had no troubles entering my serial number but only AFTER installing the update.

so here is the solution

  1. Install Poser Pro 2014 64-bit (DON'T start Poser Pro 2014 yet).

  1. Install the Poser Poser Pro 2014 Service Release 3 (Version: 10.0.3.26066, Released 11/20/2013) - requires an acutal serial number (as others above have said you will need the active license number to get the update - if the number works here it will enable Poser Pro 2014 once the update is installed).

  2. Enter serial number.

This should work for you - good luck.

vilters ( ) posted Thu, 19 December 2013 at 11:17 AM

That is a good trick.
If your serial works to get the SR?
Then you are 100% sure the serial number is valid.
Good thinking.

This makes me glad I've blocked the Internet Explorer 11 update. There's a good chance Microsoft has parted from backwards compatibility here. Considering how many software makers depend on it, I imagine this is going to be a continuing cause of many's frustration.

i met there system requirements.

Maybe they shipped the a dvd that didn't match the serial number, i don't know.

but they didn't seem to care that they had sent me a product that i paid for and did not work.

and i looked at downloading a service pack, but they wanted a credit card number to be able to download it.

What possible sense could it make to buy, software that doesn't work and then be asked to provide a credit card to update it so it works.

When I downloaded the SR3, I didn't need a credit card, just the serial number. The flaw in your argument, which you do not seem to want to acknowledge is that pretty much everyone else who bought Poser 2014 has gotten the program up and running with relatively few problems. So the question is, what's different about your situation? I'm pretty sure it's not the serial number.

If you hadn't already sent the program back, there are plenty of people here who would have been happy to help you try to get it running.

JoePublic ( ) posted Fri, 20 December 2013 at 11:07 PM

The problem is that Windows' recent update to Internet Explorer 11 broke Poser.

SM fixed that issue with their latest Poser Service Release, but you have to install that first before you can activate Poser.

OR you have to roll back your recent Windows update and uninstall IE-11.

So, what do you expect customer support to do ? Another serial number won't help, as this will be also "broken" by IE-11.

I also doubt they have a copy of PP-2014 lying around that needs no activation at all, and if they have, the library would still be broken because of IE-11.

I'm not a big fan of SM's customer support either, but in this case it is Microsoft's fault for issueing a buggy Explorer update that breaks a lot of programs.

(They even issuied a patch that prevents your system from updating Explorer automatically.)

You already got to step 2 of the checkout where Digital River, SM's distributor, wants your data to let you download Poser's SR-3.

So that means that your original serial number is valid, because without one they will immediately refuse your request.

Unless you fix the IE-11 problem ON YOUR SYSTEM, there's not much anyone else can do.

The only other option would be to download a more recent copy of PP-2014 from one of SM's servers, as these usually include the latest SRs, which the physical copys don't.

I once had my credit card company screw something up on a purchase and the support techs at Smith Micro bent over backwards, went above and beyond the call of duty to get my situation straightened out. They kept updating me on the whole process as they worked on it. They fixed my situation and I got my purchase to me in a remarkably short period. Then as if that was not enough, they followed up with emails and a phone call. They were flat out the best support I've ever gotten from a company. When it comes to the support of Poser, I put my faith in SmithMicro and the Poser techs. If anything you have going on is proving to need their assistance then contact them. If I ever do tech support myself ever again I would want to work with their people. They are that good!

I'm surprised that they didn't at least send a copy of the download manager (presuming the serial from the boxed version would work), which would download the patched version of the program file.

What's different, Earl, is that the OP is likely trying to install it on a system with IE 11; we all installed it with earlier versions.  The issue with IE 11 is fixed by the service release, which may need to be installed prior to running the program the first time (it is with the current download version)

I agree that the download process for Service Packs is clunky and demands way too much information in too many 'Required fields" for a free patch download. Entering a current serial should be enough. Instead it requires full Billing address, phone # etc, full shipping address, then it pukes because "credit card zip doesn't match" (even though it showed that my card details were NOT stored). Maybe it's a regional thing, my country's zip codes have fewer digits than US zip codes typically do. If that's the case, CPneed to get a clue, not every country has US zip codes (Duh!).

To get past that point I have to save my billing address details to my profile and then delete them again (and hope they are not stored). In these days of major data security breaches I think it is crazy to require so much personal info for a silly patch download.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Sun, 22 December 2013 at 4:41 AM

Where are you folks getting your Service packs from? I've never been asked for a credit card that I can recall. Hmm, maybe I should go and try to redownload the latest SR3.

BTW, does anyknow if that content updater for Poser ever came out?

hborre ( ) posted Sun, 22 December 2013 at 7:41 AM

A direct SR download from SM never asks for CC info, just rehashing personal info.

Anyway, this thread is virtually dead.  The OP has decided to return the purchase and not deal with it any more.

jjroland ( ) posted Sun, 22 December 2013 at 3:55 PM

I think it has added like 2.00 charges to me before for 'extended download' services.  In which case there would be a charge in your cart, and cc required unless you remove that option from your cart.  It's not that hard.

As other people have said, a CC is not required for a service update alone.  Period.

Don't want to come off as rude, but if you are reading the cart at smith micro wrong, and missing something there, it's possible you missed something else somewhere too.

Ever hear the phrase:  You catch more flies with honey?

If you were sooo looking forward to it, why not at least give some of the solutions offered you a try?

For the record, due to a completely separate issue, I just downloaded the latest service release from smith micro.  My serial number allowed me to place it in my cart.  NO credit card was required.  This was literally 2 minutes ago, the download just finished.

I also know it can be a complete pain in the @.

I am by no means a 'fan girl'.  I just think your attitude about it, might have worked against you.  Whether you are right or wrong, the fact remains that your Poser didn't work.  So I just think you'd have got a better reception with less of the "It's not ft knox".

It's also still possible that it IS on your end.  Not saying that's a certainty, I'm saying it's possible.  Were it me, I'd follow every possibility to it's conclusion.
