Okay, thanks! Now to just go through my runtime and load/resave all my superconforming stuff... it's nice when I want to throw something together extremely quickly, but I find it just gets in the way most of the time.

Thanks a million for the suggestions, everyone! I was about to give up on this project...
It turned out to be a crease-angle issue. I changed the crease angle from 80 to 95, added a few practically microscopic bevels to keep some edges sharp, and it works perfectly now.

What is a crease angle? I guess I didn't set one, in that case.

I run Poser 7 on a Toshiba Satellite with (I think) a 1.6 gigahertz processor, 80 gig hard drive, 2 gig RAM, and no separate graphics card. I don't know if there will be much of a difference between the two laptops you are considering, but based on my experience, there should be no problem running Poser on either.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I'll hopefully be getting the computer soon, but I might not end up transferring Poser 7 because I might end up upgrading to a new version of Poser. However that is not set in stone yet and I might very well end up transferring Poser 7 instead. We'll see how it goes...

Wow, thanks for the advice, everyone! It seems that just about anything I get now will give me better performance than my current computer--I'm running Poser 7 right now on a laptop with a 1.6 gigahertz processor, 2 gb RAM, and standard XP (not 64-bit). Glad to hear that there are no compatibility issues with Windows 7 64-bit... some of the bits and pieces I'd heard were beginning to worry me, because all the computers I was looking at come with Windows 7 64-bit. Thankfully it seems the issues were confined to Vista!

I hate to double-post, but I just ran into another question and it's too late to edit my original post... has anyone ran into issues with Poser 7 and Windows 7 64-bit? I've heard that Poser 7 didn't play well with Vista, and I've also heard of 64-bit operating systems having widespread software-compatibility issues, but I've also been told that those issues were with the XP/Vista 64-bit systems, and Windows 7 has fixed most of the problems.
EDIT: The posts above mine weren't shown when I made my post, I'm not sure why. I'm still wondering if anyone has had any particular issues with 64-bit systems and Poser 7?

Are there any posts about this in the Vendor forum? That might get more vendors interested... I know I always check the Vendor forum instead of the Poser forum if I'm in a rush and I only have time to check one.
Also, just a thought--if we get a lot of interest and end up with a lot of items for the bundle, maybe we should make several lower-priced bundles instead of one large high-priced bundle? I'm thinking that way if customers want to purchase the whole thing they can, but customers who can't afford the cost of a large bundle can buy one or more of the smaller bundles. Every little bit helps

I've been working on a commission and encountered these same problems. I've dealt with them by not using IK and by splitting the animation into multiple files. (For example, if frames 200-210 make frames 190-199 go nuts, then I put 200-210 in a different file). I've found that also splitting up the animation makes for less strain on my computer during rendering (i.e., my computer only has to render all night instead of rendering all night and half the morning, until it locks up).
I agree wholeheartedly with TheOwl's analysis. The video I'm working on has turned out to be far harder to make than I thought it would be, but every subsequent animation I do is faster and easier because I remember what I learned during the last one.

If I had 700 dollars sitting around to spend, I would buy myself a copy of Poser Pro 2010. Or maybe I would put it in my "saving for commercial 3DS Max" fund. Or, maybe I would keep it to put gas in my car or buy groceries or pay rent.
If people think Marvelous Designer is worth the money, then more power to them. I will stick to my nice free Wings 3D. Oh, and another thought I had: last time I looked, for the cost of the $99 non-commercial version, you could buy Poser 7 and make dynamic clothing in any program you please.
I can't speak for DAZ Studio users, but I can't see this program catching on with Poser users unless the price is reduced.

From what I've seen, it seems that in the earlier days of Poser, the early Victorias were competing against Posette. (And while I've seen people do lovely things with Posette, the simple truth is that she's not as easy to use right-out-of-the-box for realistic renders.) Then, when DAZ started upgrading the Victorias, people got the upgrades because they were happy with the older figures. (If Vicky 1 or 2 worked well for you, it stands to reason that Vicky 3 might too, right?) And, we do have to admit that Victoria 4 is a nice figure; if not the absolute best, she's not the absolute worst either. I use her because of the support available.
Which is exactly what everyone else said. I guess we're all in agreement here :)
