I recently migrated from my older Powerbook to a new iMac and after making a fresh install of the Poser8 app on the new mac just put my old PoserPro runtime in another location (in my User>Documents folder ) and linked to it as a secondary runtime. I've even been adding any new library content to that older Runtime because its already organized just as I like. Poser links to it just fine.
Python scripts however definately do need to be in the primary Runtime folder to work as I found out but I wouldn't just drag the old one over to completely replace the new.
Better to duplicate any scripts that you want to keep from the old and put them in the new python folder with a colour label (I do that to easily identify them if they need removing as I have a bad memory ) and try them out from there.
I would also start with fresh preferences too.
I do realize you are moving from Windows to Mac -not Mac to Mac as I was- but at least if you try just linking to your Windows Runtime first you won't be messing up your nice new Mac Poser installation and if all your old content works ok you've saved yourself a lot of reinstalling ; )
Hope it goes ok !

Thread: OT: Would you buy your little cousin a MAC? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Both my teenagers have mac books... they love them.
Games, iTunes, ArtRage, Photoshop, MSN Messenger, e-mails, ToonBoom basic, iMovie,Text Edit and Word for writing homework, Googling stuff... thats the sort of things they use them for.
I have only ever had Macs in the past and use an iMac now.
Poser8 runs a treat and ZBrush 3. Vue Complete plays nice now and all the various Adobe apps I use are fine .
At my kids school they use Windows based PCs and so have on occasion brought school work home in weird formats.
But since we found a great online conversion site even that isn't a problem anymore.
The biggest thing for me is I rarely have to spend time providing 'tech support' for them and for the brief 6 months my son had a Dell/Windows laptop it seemed thats all I did.
The entire family ended up hating that machine for all the headaches it caused.
But I have friends who use both Windows and Macs for work, generally they have a Mac at home.
Of course hard wear can screw up and users can themselves cause all kinds of messes on a computer regardless of platform ... but everyone knows that.
So I'd say Yes, recommend a Mac toyour cousin .
And 'Lalala' earplugs so that the snide things some WindowsPC users feel they need to say about Mac users goes unnoticed ; )
If he/she needs to adapt to a Windows PC later then they can do that.

Thread: (OT) Need an MS Office document (MDI) converted to a different format (Urgently) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Glad you got it sorted but for others that arrive here for future reference I've successfully used this site www.zamzar.com/ a few times now to convert some very school specific documents my teenagers have brought home that totally stumped our Macs that have Word for Mac, Open Office & Keynote and can usually manage most things.
It can convert text documents, images, videos, cads and compressed things regardless of platform.
Very useful site though sometimes a wait at most of 1/2 hr as a free user on occasion.
List of capabilities:
Lol, so no more excuses at my house of why homework can be done !

Thread: my poser 8 takes a long time to go from render window to the posing window... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
iMacIntel2CoreDuo10.5.8/Poser8SR1
Especially with more complex compositions I've found that if just before I render I switch the preview mode to Mesh or Outline, for example, that Poser8 switches back from the Render window to the Preview window quite quickly... though I will say even in the Full Texture view ( or whatever its called) I haven't had as much of a wait as you are reporting.

Thread: Poser 8: Wacom tablet too sensitive? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I only am using one screen with my iMac Intel Duo, 2.8GHz, 4 Gig ram 10.5.8 and Intuos 3 tablet.
When I had checked Mouse Input:Tablet Mode in the Poser 8 prefs props and figures were skittering about and sometimes jumping halfway across the pose window when I clicked on them ..
I unchecked Tablet Mode and it all behaves much better now even though I AM using the Intuos mouse and tablet. The pen however was too hard to control either way.
With P7 and Pro I did use my pen all the time with no problems .
Now with Tablet Mode unchecked in P8 sometimes it starts that behaviour but then stops again a few minutes later.
Seemd to stop when I do a 'Save' on the scene.
Have reported this too.

Thread: making a Vase prop in £d Coat for use in Poser (+free vase) :) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks Fugazi & phantom, I'm checking out the tutes now.
I bought 3DCoat when it first came out at a intro special price but didn't get very far with it... more from lack of time than ineptitude (I like to think ; )
Anyway have just upgraded to Version3 and hope to get a bit more into using it now in conjunction with Poser and Photoshop, my 3 main apps.
And have subscribed to your tutes Fugazi, they look very helpful !

Thread: Do you use v7 complete (particularly on a Mac) | Forum: Vue
last year when I was on a laptop instead of an iMac I did sometimes got unexpected results from using the trackpad. Even on my laptop I ended up hooking up a mouse for Vue6. Maybe just get a 2 button mouse and try that first if you arent keen to upgrade?
I only upgraded 3 months ago to 10.5... have to say I really do like Leopard after avoiding the upgrade for sometime.
Photoshop CS4 doesn't always play nice with it and you might remember my Hex problems from a while back - Hex an 10.5 are a total no go! in my book.
Works great with Vue7 Complete though.

Thread: Printing problem with CS4 and Imac -Epson RX595 | Forum: Photoshop
I just spent a week redoing my portfolio....just upgraded to CS4 from CS2, what a nightmare.
Epson1290 printer & an iMac .
Anyway, yes, calibrate !! your monitor, save that profile and then set that as your printers profile with "Printer managers colors" in the print dialogue. I was having a disaster with it set to "Photoshop manages colors" until a friend suggested setting it to "Printer manages Colors".
Even with updated Epson drivers that dialogue is the only way I could select the paper type or any other print settings in CS4.
Thing is Photoshop seemed to be saving my new print presets... but when I checked ( after yet another bad print) it actually wasn't.... paper type kept reverting to Plain even though I saved as 'Matte Heavyweight'.... so check that that isn't happening for you.
At least thats how I finally got very good color matching on both photos and artwork after tearing my hair out for a day... and a lot of ink and paper.
Also print your proofs smaller and in a corner at first so at least you can turn the paper around and use a different corner for another proof.

Thread: Do you use v7 complete (particularly on a Mac) | Forum: Vue
This is what I get on my iMac, 10.5.6 , 7Complete
Drop test using a 2 button Intuos cordless mouse: with a tilted cylinder
Left click=reg. drop (keeps tilt), right click=smart drop ( flips to land on flat end).
With the pen tool:
alt/click=reg. drop, ctrl/click=smart drop
Load test-
with the already in the scene cylinder selected: Left =load obj , right =save obj.
with absolutely nothing already selected left=load obj, right = no choice offered
pen tool:
alt/click=load
ctrl/click=save obj
My results are consistent.
I don't have 6Inf installed anymore because it was a disaster for me so can't compare with that.

Thread: printing a render | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Matte heavyweight paper looks good for art prints imho, I use Epson brand but there are others. My preference because I am not a fan of shiny/glossy prints unless it's for a photo.
I proof at 1/2 or 1/3 size on a cheaper matte photo paper to check colours & printer settings.

Thread: PythonScript to turn off AO pre-applied by vendors ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Karibou, at Rdna, has just posted a script she kindly made to do this in response to my also asking there .
It was her RenderStudio tute that prompted this query on my part and now she has added links to the script in the RenderStudio forum where the tute is !
