Ok. If you spawn a morph, you do NOT create a faceroomSkin, but you do have to live with three morph dials. However, can't you spawn a morph from the Pose room, with all three Face room morphs set to 1.0, and thus combine them? One way to restore the original texture, if that is your wish, is to replace the faceroomSkin image map with the one you want. BTW, in spite of cues in the texture preview that suggest otherwise, faceroomSkin only replaces the SkinHead, Lips, Eyesockets (go figure), and Nostrils. If you save your Face room texture as an image map, rather than applying it, you will get a 512 x512 texture that you can use selectively. Short commercial: I have a Face room tutorial at my site that covers a lot of this.Thread: ADMIDS !!! virus warning in freestuff!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I think Phoenix and Mozilla have a block popups switch too. Opera also has a switch that puts popups in the background. Of course, AOL's Netscape and Uncle BIlly's MSIE don't block popups, any more than they prevent any of the other invasive crud they themselves use. MS eventually will have a way to block any except their own, and they will rush to our rescue.
Thread: Probably a naive question about the eyes in Poser 5. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Like Marco-xxx said, the key is using Spawn Morph and then adjusting the three dials it creates--one on the head and one on each eye.
Thread: The Female Genital Issue AGAIN | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Another vote for reality here. I was watching a thread about how awful "cute" is, and struck by the irony that the folks who "hate" cute were likely to be the ones who devote energies to Goth cliches, comicbook violence, and sword-wielding thews. It's a bit like a McDonald's addict getting nutritionally righteous about Wendy's.
I found myself musing that what's "awful" about cute is awful about Goth and fantasy generally. And about pornography. They all trivialize. But trivializing is not bad, after all. We can't take everything seriously, and we can't take it seriously all the time. So I chuckle or groan over Koshini pictures, and I move on, uninterested, when I see chalk-white skin, blood-red lips, "clothing" made of leather straps, or another pseudo metallic jock- or bra-cup.
The all-time "I know what you're thinking" award for genitals must go to the Amy alternative to Posette which appeared then disappeared in a wave of copyright discussions. She had a complete vagina embedded in her crotch. That is to say, all the invisible parts. And this was for...? I mean, aside from the sweaty-neck thrill of modelling it?
Real genitals are no more nasty that real elbows. The idea that genitals are nasty is just as silly whether it's promoted by the pornographers or the puritans. And there are male-run cultures (if that's not redundant) that deal with the idea that females have external genitals by cutting them off. There, that fixed that.
DAZ can sell Victor 3 without so much as a pubic bulge; that's their perogative, but given the choice between a real body and a "Gibran"ed one, I'll take the real. The detail you want is a bit more than what I need, just like I don't really need hair follicles or cuticles and nailtips in my meshes, but a bit more than that flat space, a bit more than a split flat space, would be nice.
It seems to me that Arduino's Vickie genital prop provides a good deal of what you are looking for, by the way. Never bought it, but the freebie version had things like fullness, etc.
Thread: Koshini Update UP! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The Koshini page says the "shoes and bikini" are in the clothing pak. Clothing pak 2? Might want to clear this up at DAZ. I almost bought the clothing pak, then noticed they didn't seem to be included. I'd have been pretty grumpy if I had bought without noticing. Mick
Thread: I know everyone crossed Judy out but... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Great Judy. You've fixed the mouth, which is my pet peeve, with its ridge around the whole lip area. The nose pimple is in the mesh, unfortunately, and makes no sense to me. There are two others, at the dimple points in the cheek. The dimple goes out instead of in. I hope SR3 is going to address some of the problems of the figure meshes and textures, which are as bad, in their way, as some of the code bugs. Mick
Thread: P5 Face Room Tutorial | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My understanding is that they are the same mesh, and what you see in the Face Room is the "in repose" version. Hence the dials at the bottom that apply the Don/Judy/Will/Penny morphs. Also hence the problem using the Face Room on other figures (and the famous $30K price tag on adding Victoria). Since the tools simply massage the mesh by dialing morphs, the code would have to be substantially rewritten to link the photo reading tool to a different set of mesh and morphs.
Thread: A request to store merchants about figures | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Content Advisory! This message contains violence
While we're on the subject, how about merchants not trying to chug their files to the top of the directory by adding ! or !! or even !!! (I kid you not) to the beginning of their directory name.
It smacks of bushleague marketing like naming your company AAAAA Wrecking so you will appear first in the phonebook.
It makes your stuff HARD to find in a long library folder, unless I remember, with irritation, that merchant "SelfImportantGodofSexwithUzis" is under '!!!Self' rather than 'Self' in the directory alphabet.
It's a waste of time, yours and mine, because the first thing I do is take the damn !!!!!'s out, and the second is decide for myself where I'll keep your stuff (and yes, I can fix the references).
When I saw the gazillion !directories installed by V3, I removed her from my system. Enough is enough.
Thread: mikona character for victoria 2 and poser 5 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I don't have Mikona, but DAZ textures usually come with MAT files that apply the materials automatically. Check the DAZ Readme, if any, for instructions. Look in your Poses folder for a "MAT..." something or "Mikona" folder. Applying materials by hand is a PIB, in P4 or P5. If there isn't a MAT file, then you probably have a head texture and a body texture, and you can apply them by hand in P5. Here's how: Apply the head texture file to SkinHead, and then select all the nodes (a Node option, top of palette) and apply to all materials (another Node option). This is a variation of a quick trick in P4. Most of the materials are on the head, so using the Apply to All saves a bit of time. Now you can go back and change the handful of non-head textures. Apply the body texture to SkinBody, then Select All to copy the nodes (Node Options again), and then select each body material and copy the body nodes to it. (Copy. Where? You guessed it.) There may be a better way, but I can't find it. If you're lucky, those MAT files, which are poses that just change MATerials and material settings, are out there. Oh, and Vairesh has a nice two-braid Indian 'do called Awinita at the PoserPros store. I have it, and use it, and it looks good--simple but Ok. Mick
Thread: Curious puzzle: "shadowlites" "shadowcams" hidden spotlights | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I just fiddled with the attic file. Loading it into P4 PP, I got 21 lights and shadowcams, and I was able to delete all of them. Then I added a spot, which came in as Light 1 with Shadow Cam Lite 4 attached. I'm trying the file in P5 now. I just did the same thing in P5, and got the same result. And my shadowcams to not have underscores in their names. I'd be very curious to see the file you are having trouble with. Mick

I've apparently lost the message below, so I'm retyping it. ---- I tried to create a file in a text editor that has shadow cams with no associated lights, and it doesn't seem to be possible. If there is not a light acting as the camera's parent, the file hangs on opening. On the other hand, I was able to create a complete second spotlight in the editor, with shadowcam. I haven't tried creating a light without a shadowcam. Later. My suggestion, especially in light of the comments from the creator, is to open a copy of the file in a text editor and remove all the lights and shadowcams. All of them. Be careful to remove all references to each. There are typically four references to each shadowcam, I think. Then open the copy in Poser 5 and add your lights. If that works, you have a fixed file. Mick

There is only one other way to delete lights: with a text editor. I just loaded my own lights into P5, and noticed one thing that is useful: The default lights have cameras called "Shadow Lite # Cam", as in your illustration (and Light 1 has no space: Lite1 Cam). Lights you create like your spotlight 4, are named "Shadow Lite Cam #" for some reason. And under no circumstances are they named with underscores. So where did the underscores come from? I deleted all my lights and then created six new ones. The new ones were named Light 1-6, and their cameras were named 4-9! This is because, as I said, Lights 1-3 are still there, EVEN THO they were deleted. But still no underscores. I manually renamed a camera with underscores, but deleting the light still deleted the camera. There doesn't appear to be any way to delete the cameras except in a text editor or by deleting the light that goes with it. I think it's time to talk to the creator of the lights about how it was done. Mick
Thread: need help dynamic clothing! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Attached Link: http://www.poserfashion.net
First off, go to Serge Marck's site and read his excellent tutorial on clothes. I think the link is in the R'osity tutorials.Second, dynamics only work if you animate them. The fabric doesn't drape in frame one. And if you want the flow of cloth responding to her movement, she has to actually move. Easy solution: drape her/cloth her in the zero'd out position (the modified Da Vinci, which you get from a button on the joint editor). Then skip forward ten frames and pose her. When you animate the ten frames, the cloth will conform to the move to the pose.
This is the fast and dirty explanation. Take the time to read Serge Marck's tutorials (and pick up some great clothes while you're there).

Lights have "secret names" that make it difficult to delete them. If the shadowcams you are stuck with are for lights 1, 2, and 3, the lights may still be lurking in the pz3, even though they don't "exist." This secret name thing is a royal pain. If you rename a light, its shadowcam is named for the "secret name," NOT the name you gave the light. Truly bizarre, and great when you are trying to figure out which light goes with which shadowcam.
