Intuit sold 5 Mill units ($50 million), and they are unhappy because they could have sold 15 Mill. My heart bleeds for them, and every "ripped off" multi-billionaire in Siliconia. I quit buying Quicken and switched to TaxCut long before I heard about their decision to screw with my machine, legit buyer or not. But that would have been the last straw, if I hadn't already found one. No more Intuit products, period. I will not traffic with people who treat me like a thief. I learned long ago that we suspect our own worse character traits are universal. Liars think we all lie, thieves think we all steal, pedophiles think we all hunger for kiddies. If you treat all your customers like thieves, you have told me something about yourself that you probably would rather I didn't know.

I did a quick search through the thread, and I only found two mentions of RenaPD or Thip, neither of them making any accusations, as I read them. Since one of them was mine, let me say that my comment about RenaPD using the ShoutBox to try to get a message to admin was certainly not meant to be accusing anyone of anything. I was pointing out an irony that I found a bit amusing. I certainly didn't mean to suggest anything negative about Rena. Her departure from PW and now PS has affected my decisions about renewing subscriptions. I joined PW to get access to her stuff, and I joined PS when I learned that was where she had gone. Like a dog on a leash.... [;), which means I'm kidding, OK?] Mick

Quote: At no time with any of my correspondence with you Mick did I try to imply you did not read a previous message. At the risk of beating a dead horse: The entire message I got on 3/25 was a greeting, my username and password, the sentence "This is the mailing we sent to members on the 17th of March:" and the previous message. The implication is you sent it to me (a member) on the 17th of March. CLear down at the bottom of the message, embedded between my original message and the old PS message, was an apology and the concession that I might not have gotten it, even though, you pointed out, it didn't kick back to you. 'Kay? I'll say it again, so there's no confusion: The site is worth its subscription in downloads, without any question. But unprofessional, "not ready from prime time," in a number of frustrating ways, as any day's reading of the Shoutbox will tell you. And that's Ok, too, in a free site. But when you charge for access, you raise the bar. You have to handle things like customer expectations a bit differently. And once more. I find the pbuttword stuff juvenile and at least as offensive as the words being censored. I worked just down the road for a number of years, and my boss liked to call people "buttface" when he was mad at them. It was ok, 'cause he didn't use the 'a' word. He also used to tell female clients we needed to "get down to the short strokes" until I asked one of his more worldly colleagues to explain to him what 'the short strokes' were. And he liked to threaten to "rip you a new one," a personal favorite of mine, coming from a homophobe. All ways to be nasty without using "those words." I can see absolutely no difference in offensiveness between "asshole" and "butthole." And the effect of the filter is, as I said elsewhere, the OPPOSITE of the intention, because it draws attention to the offending string rather than obscuring it. IMHO. M

Case in Point: I was automatically logged under a username I have changed, when I went to look at the Shoutbox a while ago. So I "logged out" from my "non-existent" username and logged in under the new username I requested. Then, Duh!, I realized that I didn't record my changed password after I followed my own advice last week. So I dutifully clicked "Lost your password," did the required stuff, and it announced "An email with your information has been sent." That was fifteen minutes ago and counting. If the email was sent, receipt is practically instantaneous. So obviously it WASN'T sent. It will eventually be sent, but when? Meantime, I have moved on elsewhere. That's what I mean by bad marketing sense. And while we're on the subject, I am so weary, so tired, of "pbuttword".... Having "butt" stuffed in every place where the letter-string a-s-s occurs reminds me of nastily grinning little boys having fits of giggles over poop jokes and people saying "but." I can just imagine the little brats inventing the Butt Game, where you substitute "butt" for every "ass" in the lexicon. "Mbutt media buttocation pbuttes on buttimilating parent company. More to come!" Worthy of Beavis and Asshead.

Let me join in the chorus of those who did not get the email telling me about the new server/password situation. When I finally did get the email, I pointed out that the new system made security a sieve and recommended in the Shout Box that anyone logging on immediately change their password. (I can say no more.) I did finally get a message from them, with the de rigeur implication that I didn't read the other message (which I didn't get). It did, with one more tweak, get everything fixed, and the subscription extensions simply show up as your current expiry date on the main page (you have to do the math yourself, but mine was right). The group is talented and creating beautiful stuff, and you will get your $30 quickly in great downloads once you join. But their web site troubles and lack of marketing sense is going to do them in. It looks like two of the partners have already bailed, if hints mean what they seem to mean. Right now there are two shoutbox complaints from RenaPD, who is supposed to be inside, not outside and locked out.... ;)

Be warned. If you use non-Poser units to measure things, they are converted to Poser units for saving/storage, which MOVES them! I found this out the hard way, while setting up a gauge for Dist Start/Dist End. My neatly spaced markers every two feet kept being elsewhere when I reloaded the file. A bit like the System Color Picker, where the RGB values are sometimes rounded down to suit the Poser color scales. Also without telling you.... M
Thread: Poser 5 & Content Paradise | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I went there when I got the announcement from CL that it was open, and what I found was almost entirely R'osity Marketplace stuff. Absolutely no free stuff anywhere. Not even the piles of stuff one might hope that CL will someday provide to complete the content of the Poser 5 CD (like P5 templates, a cloth prop called a cloth prop rather than "hi-rez square", a one-sided square that knows the difference between its X and Z axes, skullcaps for the kids...). The navigation was useless and clumsy, and there was absolutely no reason to use that site instead of going directly to the Marketplace here. Never went back; doubt if I ever will. The "Content room" is about as welcome in my work environment as the gigantic advertising slogans on Nike shoes. (If Nike wants me to advertise their shoes while I wear them, I want an EULA! And royalties.) I felt pretty thoroughly ripped, comparing the reality to the claims. And, sadly, not surprised. So many bridges to repair....
Thread: Face Room | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
A few other points: 1. The Face room texture (faceroomSkin) only changes the skinhead, nostrils, eyesockets (eyesockets??) and lips. If you want the photo's eyeballs, you'll need to transfer them to an eyeball texture via 2d software. (Tony's "map", I think.) 2. The lighting in the Face room preview is unspecified. I'm willing to bet that it isn't the default lights. If it is, then your changes to that light will have drastic effects on the Pose room image. And if it is, then it is poor portrait lighting and chances are you won't want to use it, good match to Face room or not. 3. The camera in the Face room is unspecified too, and given CL's penchant for wide-angle lenses, and the look of the Face room face, I'll bet it's a 25-38 mm lens, and hence the face is very distorted in the preview closeups. 4. Instead of using your Face room texture, consider taking your photos into a 2D program and using them to create a normal texture. 5. The 512x512 texture will be blurry. Face it ;) My tutorial (dancingbadger, above) includes some hi-rez comparisons of Judy's hi-rez head texture and the default Face room texture. 300 DPI, if I recall, and a substantial window (maybe 500x600) with all the Firefly bells and whistles. The Face room eyebrows look like they were smeared on with mascara. If you look at the png file in a 2D program, you'll find that this is because, well, they look like they were smeared on with mascara. 6. If you compare a faceroomSkin with the original photos, I'll bet you will find that the Face room darkens the images. This is a bug, as far as I'm concerned. Mick
Thread: Has anyone Downloaded 'Koz's Long Hair' | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I read somewhere the observation that if you are Ansel Adams, you don't need a Hasselblad; you can take good pictures with a Brownie. Kozaburo is another example of how the essential ingredient is genius, not tools. All the grand, complicated, CPU-gobbling advances in hair making and styling can't hold a candle to the classic hair models he's given the community. With great thanks and appreciation, MickMcA

Also if you are using P5, Stephanie (and I suppose Vickie) is "too tall" for the P5 default pose, so when you load her, she is knock-kneed and bending down a bit. Since the hip is the default element, just dial yTrans up a skutch (don't mean to get technical...).
Thread: The Female Genital Issue AGAIN | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
SWAMP: Thanks for the tip! At last, a chance to allow the nakedness vision! One parting shot on the issue of what's pornographic. It's always struck me as wildly ironic that art critics have no trouble looking at and defending Caravaggio's pedophile wet dreams, notably Amor Victorious and the intentionally nasty and intentionally blasphemous John the Baptist leering at a ram, but Courbet's simple, elegant, and stone-graphic "split beaver," l'Origine du Monde, embarrasses them. The former are available in all their glory at the biggest art site on the web, with a note by the webmaster about how much she loves Caravaggio. The Courbet? You're kidding, right? Mick
Thread: Probably a naive question about the eyes in Poser 5. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
FYI: Never mind about the details from your mesh, now that I've figured out how to recreate the problem and, I think, found what is causing it. I hate the Joint Editor with a passion, but it sounds like you have enough experience with it that you can describe how to fix the problem. Right? So I'm gonna walk away, whistling nonchalantly.... Mick
Thread: Probably a naive question about the eyes in Poser 5. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I fiddled with the Face room and managed to create a face extreme enough that I could see what's going on. It ain't good news. Apparently the eye morphs change the diameter and Trans location of the eyeball, but not the origin. So when it rotates, it spins on the old center. In other words, if the new eyeball is half the size of the old one, then the origin becomes an anchor on the circumference rather than the center, and instead of rotating on its own center, it spins around a fixed point on its circumference. Fixable? Well, yeah, with the Joint Editor. But is it worth the trouble? What a mess.

A favor: Would you post a screen capture of the busted head mesh, and maybe a list of the changed Facial Morph settings? I'm very curious about this problem now. If you can't post the settings, maybe I can guesstimate them from the appearance of the mesh. I've had some pretty awful eyeball problems after applying the head morph, but never any that didn't fix themselves with the eye morphs. Mick
