I've messed with fstop in render settings, and am now previewing in iray and increased lumens and tweaked this that and the other and I've finally gotten something though I'll be damned if I can get the light to fall off where I want it to. Very frustrating learning curve here.

Of course I remember SAMS3D :) It's not the place or the endless frustration and glass ceiling of the software(s) or the "Doesn't look much different than what we were doing 10 years ago" renders...it's that I've simply moved on to Photography as my Hobby of choice, with a second in music should I find that kind of time.
I've dabbled posting in the Photography gallery but it's not really the reason of the season 'round here.
The reason I have to say "Farewell" is because I'm going to delete my shortcuts/bookmarks to the various 3d sites and stop checking every day. It's a ritual I need to purge.
Anyway, I blather on...

Okay, DS decided it was done with my render, which is set to "Photoreal" and what I have is a ton of noise.
Why do I have a ton of noise?
Thread: DazStudio 4.9...Lighting Confusion/Madness | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I played a bit with the tone-mapping settings, but the results seemed kind-of "Chromatic" and not organic at all. I finally figured out to just crank up the Lumens on the light itself; that seems to have done the trick. Now, to figure out why my rather small render is 6% in one hour. Not good enough.

The very strange thing is that they MUST see their website dying, and mass exodus etc. but yet seemingly refuse to do anything but stay the course and/or make it worse?
I just don't get it.
For me, the death of RO is going hand-in-hand with the death of my interest in this hobby in general. Without a free and open community to participate in, there is no motivation to keep working at this.

Well, this is bad news as far as I'm concerned. Only a couple of months ago was the new version even hinted at, and now it's almost to launch without any real talk about what's new. To me, this makes the couple of "Hey, tell us what you'd like to see..." threads there were placed on or about the announcement time silly....as anything we might've said would've been filed right in the circular file because if they're already so close to launch, it means they were practically done with it already.
New render engine...okay, I'll listen... New amazing Paul and Pauline? Doubtful, very doubtful.
Thread: Help with lights, simple n00b question (I hope) | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Cool, thanks! But I'd also like to have the preview window be free of default light so I can see what I'm doing when placing spots.
It seems that no matter what I check or uncheck, preview always has this headlamp on even if I make a new camera and tell it not to and be sure to select it as the camera I'm looking through.
Preview always blue a lit up like a Christmas tree. I do toggle the lightbulb button and I can see a slight darker tint when my created light isn't placed on model, but otherwise it's still really lit up. I want it pitch black until light is illuminating something.
Or can it not do this?

Ug, it is as I feared. Quite a labyrinth. I suppose if the end result is "better" than I can't fault them.

"We're looking into it"
That seems to me to be crazy talk. It seems to suggest that this is all coming at you guys off-guard. Like you really expected people to like these constant, ever-worsening changes to Renderosity. Like you're all just puzzled beyond belief.
You ask us not to be negative, but sometimes the truth is not positive. Your members are angry at you guys taking what was once a great and highly functional forum/site and consistently sabotaging it beyond usability.
It's like you don't want to consider an inconvenient truth, only continue to push agenda of encouraging everyone to leave.
It's time to own-up to the mistakes and admit that these changes are pleasing absolutely nobody except the pockets of whomever is doing this terrible work.
You guys just don't want to take any heat or own any responsibility for how horrible things have become.
It's frustrating and it makes you guys look totally oblivious to what anyone here wants or needs.
It reminds me of George Lucas and his commitment to Jar-Jar Binks and adding fart sounds to Original Star Wars and other atrocities.
Oblivious.

As a semi-retired user from way back, I find the lack of development of Hair means and methods a big turnoff. The hair room has always been horrible, and going into 2016 (Presumably) without any changes...it just seems like the elephant in the room.
I'd welcome even a separate program dedicated to hair creation that works in real time, much along the lines of Marvelous Designer and the way it handles cloth.
Just...something. I mean we're 15 years into the 21st century and it still feels like 1999 to some degree.

Nevermind, DSON inserted a custom geometry in the Head, had to clean it up in cr2 editor.

Yes, actually I am saying it's more OT than any of those.
Oh, you would be wrong, then. Thanks for trying to be the forum police though, good show.
